MELLOW YELLOW
Our EC students love their weekly visits to the art room with Art Director Colleen Bryant. EC3 read the book Little Blue and Little Yellow by Leo Lionni about how blue and yellow mix to make green. Students then had the chance to experience this mixing of paint firsthand, and they worked to blend the two colors with their brush to make green. They will continue making "mixed color" paintings over the next couple of weeks, and will have all of their paintings exploring color put together into their own book to take home.
WE HELP OURSELVES
Our K, 2nd and 5th grade students participated in a safety anti-victimization program called WHO (We Help Ourselves). This program is designed to help children learn behaviors and strategies for staying safe at home, school and in the community. Students are taught basic rules to know what to do when faced with a potentially dangerous situation, and who to go to for help. The program was overseen by Guidance Counselor Stacey Laves-Khalifa and consisted of a presentation and a discussion led by a Childbuilders trained facilitator.
Montessori parents were invited to attend an engaging and insightful session led by two of our Montessori teachers Jayne Fowler and Cynthia Jones. The discussion covered the approach towards language and its growth and development throughout the Montessori program at RMBA.
ISRAEL BOUND We bid a fond farewell to our seniors this week who are in Israel for a two week adventure. An emotional school wide assembly was held on Monday afternoon where students from each grade presented our seniors with thoughtful and meaningful gifts to prepare them for their trip.
RODEO IS JUST AROUND THE CORNER
5th grade students are excitedly preparing their entries for the 2015 Houston Livestock and Rodeo Art Show. RMBA was accepted as a a participant to the art show and 4th through 12th grade students are all preparing pieces that they created and designed themselves during their art classes.
FALLING FOR FALL
The weather has turned and the leaves are beginning to fall from the trees. EC2 students and their teachers collected leaves around the playground and made their own "trees" as a fun project.

BEREN ACADEMY STARS
Basketball Season is in full swing!!!
High School Girls continued their season with some tough losses last week, but are continuing to get better with each game. The girls are 1-4 overall (1-0 in district) as they prepare for two more tough games while our seniors are on their trip.
High School Boys have continued their season with some big wins last week. The boys, who are 3-0 on the year (1-0 in district), beat Woodlands Prep and Logos Prep. This week we are preparing for two more tough games while the seniors are on their senior trip.
Middle School Boys JV won again on Monday with an impressive win against Cornerstone Christian. The JV boys are 2-0 on the season.
Middle School Boys varsity continued their season with a tough loss against Cornerstone Christian. The varsity boys are 0-2 on the season.
Middle School Girls opened their season with a win against Logos Prep. They are 1-0 on the season.
Middle School Basketball
Middle School Basketball has officially started. Here are a few reminders for all parents
-
All girls MUST wear an undershirt under their jersey. This shirt must be the same color as the primary color of the uniform (Home games - white; Away games - Royal blue). Boys don't need to wear an undershirt, but if they choose to do so, the same rules apply.
-
All players (boys and girls) need to purchase a royal blue pair of shorts if they do not already have. The shorts need to be completely royal blue with no stripes down the side. They can be purchased at Academy for about $6.00.
-
Some schools will charge admission at their schools to watch the game (most will not charge). We do not charge admission at Beren for middle school games.
-
Transportation to and from away games are the parents responsibility. The middle school girls do not have any away games until January. Both boys teams play away for their first game next week.
-
There will be games in which the middle school players will need to leave their last class early to make it to the games on time. I will send out a list of what games those are and when you are able to pick them up from school.
-
A list of Away game locations is posted on the website.
-
Updated practice schedules are on the school calendar and game schedules can be found on the school website and calendar.
-
Please use the Greenwillow gate for picking up students after games or practices.
-
If you have any questions, please e-mail me at chriscole@berenacademy.org.
