WELCOME TO OUR RMBA BNOT SHEIRUT
|
Robert M. Beren Academy is proud to welcome Aya Dror and Neta Jacobowitz as the incoming Bnot Sheirut for the 2014/15 school year. Aya and Neta's roles will be to assist in the Judaic programing at the school.
Aya was born in Houston and her family moved back to Israel when she was two to the town of Shoham. Aya does not have any memories of Houston but is excited to make many new ones! She is the oldest of four siblings with two younger sisters and one brother in Israel.
Neta was born in Israel and also grew up in Shoham. Went to school very similar to this. Her family moved to New York when she was 6 and returned to Israel when after 2nd grade. She is also the oldest of four with two younger brothers and one sister.
Having grown up in the same town, Aya and Neta are good friends which will help as they work together this coming year on a number of fun projects at RMBA. When asked why they wanted to participate in the Bnot Sheirut program, both were impressed by the positive feedback of past participants back in Israel. They feel that educating Jewish students in the states is important and are excited to bring Israel to life through the Ulpan Maasi (practical experience) programs at RMBA, assisting our Judaic and Hebrew teachers during classes and Bnei Akiva activities. On a personal note, they are also excited to experience a different culture and learn about Jewish people outside of Israel.
Although leaving Israel and their family and friends over the summer was difficult due to the conflict in Gaza, they are ready and excited to be a part of the RMBA family. We look forward to their partnership this academic year and we welcome them to the team!

ONEG SHABBAT
Our elementary students have begun their weekly Oneg Shabbat celebration led by Morah Judy Pollack with the assistance of our Bnot Sheirut. We look forward to our early childhood program parents joining us for their Oneg Shabbat celebration starting after the Chaggim in October.
SHOFAR SIGHTING
Our lower school students have enjoyed the daily sounds of the shofar in the mornings in preparation of the High Holidays and Rosh Hashana. Our Kindergarten class was allowed to hold the rather large shofar and did so with excitement and glee.
DIALED INTO DETAILS
The High School art class comprises of 9th to 11th grade students and they are currently working on drawing from observation, focusing on the proportions of wooden figures and creating overlapping figures to show movement. They will finalize their drawings with shading, choosing to use either pencil or charcoal.
TOTS DO SHABBAT
Our Early Childhood 15 month class is settling down to a nice routine and we are so proud of our youngest RMBA students. On Fridays that enjoy delicious Challah and grape juice while blessings over the Challah and candles are made.
MAD ABOUT SCIENCE
Our 7th grade middle school physical science class is enjoying plenty of practical lab experience this semester. Students are eager to don their protective gear to gaining an understanding of the scientific method while becoming familiar with making hypothesis.
ME, MYSELF AND I
Our elementary school students grades K through 5th do a self portrait at the start of each year for our self-portrait wall in the art room. After sketching and outlining their face, students choose their favorite color to paint in the background and the portraits on the wall show off our RMBA artists throughout the year.
RMBA elementary school teacher Mrs. Elisheva Levitt serves as the Yachad Houston Chapter Coordinator and oversees our Yachad board and volunteer member meetings comprising of our High School students. Yachad, The National Jewish Council for Disabilities is a thriving global organization dedicated to addressing the needs of all Jewish individuals with disabilities and ensuring their inclusion in every aspect of Jewish life. We are so proud of our students who are committed to the mission of Yachad and its success.
AMAZING ACCOLADES
Last school year, RMBA entered the prestigious Ivrit Publications Competition. There were entrants from all over the world and we are proud to share that Morah Rinat Alatin 3rd grade class project won the Grand Prize and Geverit Rina Erlichman's 2nd grade class won 2nd place and her 5th grade class received an honorable mention! Kol HaKavod (well done) to our students and staff for their incredible efforts!
SHAKE IT OFF
Our early childhood after school activities have now begun! These are optional events such as ballet or chess. Below, some of our EC3 students enjoyed making maracas and playing with musical instruments while learning about different sounds and pitch with Mad Science.
