FIRED UP FOR SCIENCE
Ms. DiGiulio introduced her Middle School Science classes to her Cornstarch Fireball lab, a favorite of hers to teach. Ms. DiGiulio uses this lab to explain fire safety while instructing students how to correctly write a lab report. The students instruct the teacher how to dress for lab: wearing closed toe shoes, hair tied up, wear an apron, safety goggles and gloves. This is a lab that often excites the students due to the fire display while reiterating the importance of starting the year correctly practicing safety in the lab and continue to do so all year.
SUMMER READING PACKET
Students in grades 1 through 5 received an academic packet during the summer with a list of age and reading level appropriate books they could select from to read over the summer. A delicious breakfast was held at school for these students who completed their summer reading packet and any new elementary students to celebrate this incredible achievement. The list of titles included both fiction and nonfiction books by some of the best authors for children and young adults.
BBQ BEREN STYLE
Upper School students were treated to a delicious BBQ on Monday courtesy of Chef Rabbi Levitt. This was a great opportunity for the students to relax and hang out over lunch with their friends and teachers as we enter the first full week of school.
PARENT NIGHT DONE RIGHT
This week we held our annual Parent Night Informationals for Lower and Upper School. Parents gathered in the Ulam for a welcome and introductory session with the principals, followed by scheduled sessions with the teachers of their children in a casual classroom environment. This was a great opportunity for parents to pose questions to teachers and mingle with other parents.
INTO IVRIT (Hebrew)
Morah Rinat Alatin's 4th grade class is already working hard on their Hebrew language skills and relationship building among the students, a theme throughout the year. Morah Rinat often engages students with fun and educational games, this particular one emphasizes that we are all unique individuals but when we match up the game pieces, together we form one special whole.
VOLLEYBALL
Our High School Girls Volleyball team played their first match this week and convincingly beat Mt. Carmel 3-0. Way to kick off the start of the season Beren Stars!
SOUNDS OF THE SHOFAR
The school corridors are alive with the sounds of the shofar every morning! For the month of Elul, students will hear the shofar being blown each morning by RMBA parents Steven Plumb and Sheldon Bootin.
STUDENTS SHAPE UP
As part of the geometry syllabus, a few first graders in Mrs. Fowler's class learn the names of geometric solids and understanding the parts involved.
