RECOGNITION IN LOCAL NEWSPAPER
People to watch in 2015: Elizabeth Forel
Many of you know how difficult it has been to get the truth out about the carriage horse issue. We have fought this battle consistently since 2006 and many more years before that. We will stay in this fight until the truth comes out and all the horses are saved.
Ourtown/West Side Spirit ran a story about Elizabeth Forel called The Tireless Animal Activist - one of the people to watch in 2015. We appreciate them for recognizing the work we have put into this campaign. People to Watch: Elizabeth Forel
When asked whether I thought the bill would pass, I said "The bill will pass. It is the right thing to do and most Council Members want to be on the compassionate and right side of history."

YOUR INFORMATION REQUESTED
Please help us move this campaign to the next level
I recently put out a request asking for your contact information so we can move to the next level -- thanks to those who already provided it. Starting in January, we need to target the NY City Council much more than we have been doing. This is crucial to support this legislation. We hope you will be involved. To that end, we need to collect the following information from you if you are a NYC resident.
- Name (first and last)
- Street address
- City, State and zip code
- Telephone Number
- E-mail address
Please e-mail coalition@banhdc.org -- or simply hit "reply" on this e-mail.
NOTE: if you live outside of NYC and want to be more involved, please provide the same information requested.
Please know that we will not share your personal information with anyone. Thank you for helping the horses. Together, we can do this.
OUR NEW SUBWAY AD
We need your help
This is our new subway ad. (It will be much larger, therefore legible.) At this time, we will be able to pay for 14 posters and have targeted several subway stations. Thanks so much to those who have contributed. We would love to do more with your help. Each poster - printing and placement - is about $600. We just received our approval for the subway ad and will run this campaign from mid January to February, covering Valentine's Day. We also expect to resume our newspaper ads in Metro sometime in January or February.
If you would like to support our new subway campaign or newspaper ads, please send your donation per the instructions on our web site. Thanks so much to those of you who have supported our ad campaign.
THE 8 HARDEST-FOUGHT ANIMAL BATTLES OF THE YEAR
THE Dodo: The 8 Hardest-Fought Animal Battles Of The Year - by Melissa Cronin - 12/29/14. from the article: #2 - NYC Horse Carriages: In New York City, the animal issue at the top of everyone's list is the potential retirement of the city's carriage horses. A major platform of Mayor Bill de Blasio's electoral campaign, the horses are now teetering atop a tug-o-war rope with animal activists on one side and carriage drivers on the other. In October, a series of documents was released revealing a disturbing series of accidents involving horse carriages, including at least 12 incidents after which the driver allegedly fled the site.
But a bill introduced in December may settle the battle for good. The proposed legislation would both ban the horse carriages and see to it that the horses are not sold to slaughterhouses once retired. If the bill goes through, 2015 could bring much greener pastures (literally) for New York City's horses.
