BAN HORSE-DRAWN CARRIAGES FUND RAISER
a great success
null Our fund raiser was a resounding success. Thanks to all those who came to support the issue. Special thanks to Jane Velez-Mitchell who has always been there for us and is always a hit when she pulls the raffle winner tickets out of the pot. Thanks also to Harris Bloom for being our MC when he has so many responsibilities at home, including a pregnant wife, a young child and a disabled dog. Much appreciated. Thanks to Senator Tony Avella, Brian Gari and Donny Moss for their contributions -- and to all the behind the scenes people who helped to make this happen.

Special thanks also to all of the vegan restaurants/companies that so graciously and generously provided delicious vegan appetizers and soda - We hope you will make note and support them. Blossom Cafe, Taim Falafel, Candle Cafe, The Loving Hut, Franchia, Baby Cakes, Gone Pie, and Cinnamon Snail. New terrific additions include Heirloom Vegan Eatery, Chef Oscar Vegan Revolution, Treeline Treenut Cheese and Caveman Foods.

This link will take you to all the wonderful individuals, organizations and companies that donated to our raffle. Thanks to all of them. Click here.

DEBLASIO LEADS IN MAYORAL PRIMARY ELECTION
Christine Quinn comes in a distant third - run off is questionable
null The unofficial count as of Tuesday. 9/10, was Bill deBlasio in the lead with 40.2%, second but far behind was Bill Thompson with 26% and in third place was Christine Quinn with a bit over 15%. We are delighted with these results. The Coalition had previously endorsed deBlasio and anyone who cares about animals has to be happy that Christine Quinn is history.

A candidate for city wide office must get 40% of the vote to avoid a run off. Since deBlasio was so close to 40%, all votes from the voting machines are being recounted. We will not know the results for a few days. There are also paper ballots (absentee and affidavits) that must be counted. So our victory is not quite clear yet. If there is a run off, it will be between deBlasio and Thompson.

Christine Quinn, the animals' nemesis for many, many years lost big time. Once leading in the polls she came in a distant third with 15%. Her support began to erode with the public and her message simply no longer resonated. The fact that she is a woman and gay had no effect. Many people felt that they would like to have a woman or a gay person for mayor - but just not that gay woman. A huge thank you in no small way to Donny Moss, the director and creator of the anti horse-drawn carriage documentary - Blinders: the Truth Behind the Tradition, which is now available through Amazon. Donny started this campaign against Quinn, seeking to educate the public about the many issues that made her unsuitable to be our next mayor. It was not just about animal issues but about the slush fund scandal, closing St. Vincent's hospital; her coziness with real estate developers and giving Bloomberg a third term by ignoring the will of the people and killing term limits.
