Ban horse-drawn carriages
entertainment This is one of our ads -- we have several. This week we will be advertising in Metro and Ourtown/WestSide Spirit. Last week it was the Staten Island Advance. Thanks to all of you who have donated to this cause. We plan to add more ads based on available funds. Ads will appear in various NYC papers in all boroughs throughout the next few months.

If you would like to contribute to our advertising campaign and help us to get the message out in more papers, please send us a donation via this link. Click here. Donations by PayPal or check are welcome. Depending on the size, the number of times an ad is run, and the newspaper, the cost has ranged from $350 to $700 per ad. We are all volunteer so every dollar donated goes back into the organization.

PRESENTATION AT EQUINE ADVOCATES CONFERENCE
April 28, 2013
This Youtube video - Ban Horse-Drawn Carriages in New York - is based on the presentation I made at the Equine Advocates Conference in Chatham, NY., which was held on April 27th and 28th. The carriage trade and their supporters tried hard to get "equal time" although the conference focused on anti slaughter and the bill in Congress. No where on any of the sites belonging to the "trade" is there any mention of this bill. They just could not stand that I was given the opportunity to speak.

The purpose of this presentation was to educate a larger segment of the horse-loving public on the plight of NYC's carriage horses and to talk about the Avella/Rosenthal bill S667 and A997 in the NYS legislature that will prohibit the use of horse-drawn carriages in NYC.

SUPPORT SAFE ACT - The resounding message that came out of the summit was to get the SAFE Act - S. 541 and H.R. 1094 passed and signed into law. This bill would prohibit the sale or transport of equines or equine parts in interstate or foreign commerce for purposes of human consumption. Scroll down the Kaurmanzoning.net page to Federal Legislation to learn more about this important bill. Contact your legislators and ask them to support it.

NEW BLOG: NYC CARRIAGE HORSES LIVE IN A CONCRETE JUNGLE
This is a new blog about how the NYC carriage horses live from day to day -- no turnout to pasture -- a boring, stressful existence. Click Here.

Horse experts say that a horse should have pasture time every day for 16 to 18 hours. They recommend between 1 and 1 acres of pasture per horse. This is where the horses graze, exercise, hang out with his herd, play, mutually groom each other - a great stress reliever. But alas, it does not exist in NYC. New York City carriage horses have no turnout to pasture. (read on)

BILL TO BAN HORSE-DRAWN CARRIAGES IN NYS LEGISLATURE
Please make calls - Bill Numbers: S667 and A997 + Sign the petition
3-9-13 horse rubs The only bill to support in the campaign to ban horse-drawn carriages in NYC is the Avella/Rosenthal bill in the State Legislature. It is a pure ban. There are no strings attached. This is a link to a petition we have on change. org. Please sign it if you have not done so already.

You can read the legislation by clicking on the bill numbers, S667 and A997 . Text in CAPS is new. Text with a strike through is deleted. (picture of horse with horse rubs due to illegal manure catcher attached to the horse rather than the carriage.)
