You can read the legislation by clicking on the bill numbers, S667-2013 and A997-2013. Text in CAPS is new. Text with a strike through is deleted. All other text will remain.

  • TIPS ON LETTER WRITING OR MAKING PHONE CALLS

    • The bill has the exact same language in each house. It "Prohibits the operation of horse drawn cabs in the city of New York."
    • Ask the Senators to sign on to S667. Ask the Assemblymembers to sign on to A997.
    • Short letters are preferred. Form letters are discouraged. Let them know that many people want this business to be shut down because it is inhumane, abusive and unsafe. It is time NYC comes into the 21st century.
    • See "THE TOP 15 REASONS WHY NYC SHOULD BAN HORSE-DRAWN CARRIAGES" for inspiration. Click here.
    • Tell these legislators that the horses need their help. It is not a political issue. Notice that besides NYC, the legislators represent many different cities in New York State.
    • Please leave your name and city/state when you write and please write regardless of where you live. People who live outside of NYC are potential tourists. Let the legislators know this.
This bill must be passed out of the Cities Committee in both houses before it can be considered by the entire legislative body.

5TH AVENUE WATER TROUGH FOR HORSES
water trough This is the way it looked for years - turned off in the winter and used for garbage.

VICTORY! - THIS IS THE WAY IT LOOKS NOW
water trough 5th avenue After more than one year of ignored pleas to do something about the water trough near 5th Avenue that gets shut off during the busiest time of the year - this is a result of a recent campaign directed to the Central Park Conservancy asking them to do the right thing. The water trough is working. Recently the Parks Dept. did some construction at the request of the Conservancy. Thanks to all of you who sent e-mails. You made it happen!! (photo by M. Xanthos)
