AFTERMATH OF SANDY
slowing getting back to normal
New York City (and surrounding areas) was hit hard by Hurricane Sandy. This past week has been very tough and we are slowly getting back to normal. I sincerely hope a speedy recovery for those of you who are still suffering. We did not think it could ever happen to us. I was one of the fortunate ones to have power so thanks to all of you who reached out to ask how we were and how the carriage horses were faring. Mass transit was not running for a few days and until yesterday, it was still not running south of 34th St. NYC is crippled without its subways and buses. I updated our website with information I had about the horses and I understand they are back working today. After almost one week of no exercise and no turnout, we hope the drivers do not work them hard. They could be subject to Exertional Rhabdomyolysis - commonly known as Tying Up Disease.
Sandy is NYC's Katrina. And although this newsletter is dedicated to the carriage horse issue, I want to offer some links to different sites to help people and animals. Some of the links are only available if you have a Facebook account.

CHARLIE TAGS HONORING CHARLIE HORSE
I will let you know next week if there are any left
Our organization's PO Box is located in a post office that was closed until yesterday. The Charlie Tags are in my office, which i have not been able to access all week. So I hope to mail them out soon. If you sent us a check or paid by PayPal and have not received your tag or art work yet, please drop me an e-mail at coalition@banhdc.org and mention it so I can confirm we received it. Thanks for everyone's interest and patience.

BEAUTIFUL ART WORK OF HORSES AVAILABLE
to help our campaign
Long Island artist Teresa Vecere has generously donated her art work to our campaign to ban horse-drawn carriages in NYC. Please click here to see the beautiful horse art work available -- they are reasonably priced prints of the originals, ideal for matting and framing and perfect for gifts. They are professionally printed Glicee prints on fine art archival paper. Prints are only $30.00, which includes shipping. Please contact us at coalition@banhdc.org for shipping outside the US.
We are also making available - courtesy of the artist, the original digital collage of "Charlie's City, " which had been entered into a juried art show. It is 19" wide x 27" high. It is printed on canvas and incorporates pieces of the news story of Charlie's death. The image of Charlie is reflected in the horse's eye. It is based on the original, which is of the carriage horse only and uses graphite, charcoal and watercolor on board. The piece will be hand signed by the artist.
We would like to auction this off to the highest bidder starting at $250.00. If anyone is interested in bidding, please send your offer to coalition@banhdc.org. If you have any questions about the piece, please e-mail at the same address and I will try to answer them.
