On Your Ballot
Vote! The Chamber SWLA Board of Directors supports the renewal of the Burton Tax and the passing of Amendment 8.

The Burton Coliseum & Agricultural Services Tax Renewal is needed for the purpose of operating, maintaining, and improving more than just the Burton Coliseum.  The money will also be used to fund the LSU AgCenter and the West Calcasieu Center Authority.  This property tax (1.5 mill) was originally approved in 1993.  The approximate cost to the average property owner is not very much.  If your property value is $75,000 or less, you pay nothing.  On a property valued at $150,000, you would only pay .94 cents a month.

The Chamber SWLA also encourages voters to support a constitutional amendment on the Nov. 6 ballot that will help create quality new jobs in Louisiana. Proposed Amendment No. 8 will encourage businesses to invest in Louisiana by providing a partial property tax exemption to competitive projects in certain target industries - projects Louisiana currently is losing because our tax environment is not competitive with other states for projects in these industries. The exemption will be offered only in parishes that elect to participate in the program.
