Worship Service  -  10:00am
"Postmodernism and the Legacy of the Enlightenment"

In many ways contemporary culture is caught between a dedication to science and the use of rationality on the one hand and a skepticism about the human ability to be rational combined with moral relativism on the other. The tension between these two outlooks is present within UU circles. One way of looking at these issues is to see them as a struggle between Postmodernism and the continuing influence of the Enlightenment. This sermon will try to shed some light on these questions. Our Affiliated Community Minister, Rev. Dr. Jerome Stone speaking.

This week, children are invited to go directly to Room 5 for activities during the worship service. Childcare for infants, toddlers, and younger children will be available in Room 11 during the service.

Black & Pink Letter Writing Event
Sunday, July 10, 11:15am blackandpink
The Rainbow Alliance is offering an educational letter-writing event in room 3 immediately after the 10:00am service.

We are working through a national organization called Black & Pink. We have invited volunteers with Black & Pink to join us and guide us in how to establish and grow our pen pal relationship with someone who is behind bars. Megan Selby will be present and she is planning to bring a formerly incarcerated volunteer to speak with us.

We plan to begin to write letters of support to LGBTQ+ prisoners who need our care and support.  Visit  http://www.blackandpink.org/ for more information about their efforts to fight back against the prison industrial complex. We hope that you will join us in these simple acts of kindness.

Whether you are new to Unitarian Universalism or you would like to understand the seven principles and six sources of our faith better, join us for this rich 45-minute discussion led by members of the New Member Committee. We'll use thought provoking metaphors to dive deeper into the foundations of being a UU.
Summer Diaper Drive diapers
Our Giving House will be collecting diapers all summer long. Diapers will be donated to the Bundled Blessings Diaper Pantry at First United Methodist Church. This program provides diapers to low-income families in Evanston. New, as well as, opened packages are accepted. All sizes needed. Let's fill our house for babies in need.
News from Green Sanctuary greensanctuary
Please join Green Sanctuary on Wednesday, June 29 at 6pm at Blind Faith Cafe (525 Dempster) as we plan upcoming Green Sanctuary events and explore our visions for the committee.  Even if you have never attended a Green Sanctuary meeting, or it's been awhile, whether you're just a little green or a whole lot of passion about the environment and all things green, we'd love to have you join us for a great meal.  Bring your fresh ideas!

If possible, please RSVP to Heather Brown or if you decide to attend last minute, that's fine too.
Shared Offering Nominees for Next Year Deadline is July 31 sharedoffering
We invite you to submit nominations for our shared offering recipients for the 2016-17 shared offering. Charitable 501c(3) organizations with which our members have a relationship will be chosen by the Social Action Council from the nominees. Please submit a shared offering form to Carol Nielsen or Doug Erickson by July 31. The form must be submitted electronically as we have to make packets of nominees for the Social Action Council.

Visit the Social Action page of our website or click here for the form.

At the August meeting, the Social Action Council will be deciding on the monthly offerings. Again, please note that suggested organizations must have a 501(c)3 status and be doing work that aligns with our UU values. Guidelines are listed on the Nominee Form.  If you have questions, please contact Carol Nielsen or Doug Erickson
