Sunday, December 13
Worship Service - 9:15 and 11:00am
All around are reminders to be present to our own lives, if only we listen. They tell us that hope and peace are not future events, but that their potential exists now. Paying attention is a lesson of Advent. Rev. Bret Lortie speaking.
Children's Religious Education
This Sunday, December 13, our preschool, kindergarten-first grade, second-third-fourth grade, and fifth-sixth grade classes will meet from 9:15-10:30 and 11:00-12:15. The seventh-eighth grade class will take a field trip today, and the senior high youth group will meet at 10:30. All (except the seventh-eighth grade class this week) will begin in the sanctuary for the first part of the worship service before going to classes. Childcare for infants, toddlers, and preschoolers will be available from 9:00-12:30.
Wailin' Mahalias at UCE
Come listen to music from the Wailin' Mahalias during both services on Sunday, December 13. Join us later that afternoon at 1:30pm for a CD release event for the new CD, Angel Voices. There will be food, drink, a concert and prizes. Suggested admission charge $10.
Principles and Sources Discussion - 10:15am
A discussion facilitated by the New Member Committee taking a deeper look at our seven principles and six sources with some helpful metaphors. Join us whether you are new to Unitarian Universalism or you think you've heard it all.
Write for Human Rights
12:00pm at the back of the sanctuary
Amnesty International looks at their global portfolio of cases, including Prisoners of Conscience, human rights defenders, torture survivors and communities at risk to decide who will be featured in each year's Write for Rights. They then provide names, addresses and information for you to write letters to officials who can release these prisoners. We have paper, pens, envelopes, stamps. These letters have an impact. Prisoners get better conditions or are released and human rights defenders are protected. Take a minute to alleviate these terrible situations which are so unjust.
"The End of Doom"
Throughout the past five decades there have been many forecasts of impending doom, most proven wrong. The effects of human resourcefulness have often been underestimated. World poverty is in decline, cancer rates are falling in America, world population will soon be declining, food is abundant, life spans are up, pollution is decreasing, reforestation is occurring, and the cost of clean energy will soon fall below that of fossil fuels. In his book, The End of Doom: Environmental Renewal in the Twenty-First Century, Ronald Bailey details his optimism. Is it reasonable to extrapolate Bailey's analysis to the future or are there factors that should temper his optimism and call for a different policy approach? Discussion Leaders: Gordon Mallett and Scot Campbell
The Chris Isely Cancer Support Group
This Sunday at 9:15am in Room 2
If you have had cancer, are in treatment now, or have experienced cancer with a loved one, join us to talk and listen, learn and teach. Come with a caring heart. We keep the stories in the room.
