JUNIOR WOMEN'S HOCKEY LEAGUE: GREAT HOCKEY IS EXPECTED FROM CYA
By Morgan De Korte ~ The Junior Women's Hockey League has three new U19 teams this season. One of these new teams, the Chicago Young Americans, have thought about joining the JWHL for a while but with conflicting playoff times, the league didn't seem like an option. Until now. The JWHL came to the hockey club with an option of playing in the league during the season with no postseason requirements. "We jumped at the opportunity. Now the players can play in the JWHL and still compete in the state championship," said head coach John Cimba. "We feel that this [JWHL] is the perfect step in preparing our players for the next level." The players will be able to have the experience of playing at college arenas with thousands of viewers and high numbers of scouts at each games. Joining the JWHL will open up opportunities for the players and push the players to be NCAA ready.

AMANDA SELTZER RECEIVES MANON RHEAUME FOUNDATION SCHOLARSHIP
Congratulations to Sabre Girls Alum, Amanda Seltzer. She recently received a Manon Rheaume Foundation Scholarship which awards scholarship grants to girls under the age of nineteen (19) who have expressed a desire to pursue their dreams in athletics to further or enable their respective athletic careers. Amanda plays for the ACHA Division I Colorado State University Women's Hockey team in Fort Collins, Colorado. "I am honored to be the recipient of the Manon Rheaume Scholarship. This scholarship is very special to me because it's an opportunity for women hockey players to be recognized for all our hard work on and off the ice. Manon has inspired me in many ways. She has worked hard, and has taken her opportunities and passed them forward. Someday I would like to achieve great things and provide opportunities to others." - Amanda Seltzer

SHOULD MY DAUGHTER PLAY SQUIRTS OR 10U?
By Minnesota Hockey ~ Raising kids is one of the most difficult and rewarding pursuits on earth. Parents are almost continually making decisions based on what is best for their kids' current situation and long term development. When it comes to youth hockey, some of those decisions are magnified because of the excitement and passion surrounding the game. One common decision and discussion topic this time of year is whether girls should play on girls only or youth (co-ed) teams.

JR. DUCKS, LADY DUCKS EARN MODEL ASSOC. STATUS
By John Tranchina ~ For Rick Hutchinson, the honor was a validation of the approach he's been taking for two decades. When the Jr. Ducks, Lady Ducks and The Rinks were designated this summer as a USA Hockey Model Association, it confirmed that the Anaheim Amateur Hockey Association, under the umbrella of the National Hockey League's Anaheim Ducks, had been doing things the right way.

THE ROAD NOW TRAVELED
Most girls who grew up playing hockey aren't playing in the NWHL, but that doesn't mean their dreams weren't realized when the first puck dropped almost one year ago.
By Nicole Rao, NWHL Staff Writer ~ The elevator couldn't rise fast enough. I checked the time again. It was nearly three o'clock and I could sense my mother next to me, stifling an amused smile as I danced impatiently about the HarborCenter elevator. October 11th had finally arrived. This day would mark the inaugural game of the National Women's Hockey League and after months of anticipation Buffalo, New York was about to host its own piece of hockey history.
Stepping out, I got my first glimpse of the rink; I breathed it in. It was perfect. Big open balconies welcomed a wide cross-section of patrons but most notably young girls wearing the jerseys of their respective hockey clubs. They rushed around, flagged down friends and snapped countless photos while energetically recounting their most memorable hockey moments, at lightning speed. Beneath the high ceiling hung a low but growing buzz as the energy began to build alongside the increasing rainbow of jerseys. With our tickets scanned and coffees in hand, my mother and I took our seats while dozens of frenetic, young faces were glued to the glass behind the Buffalo net as the Beauts and Pride players took to the ice for warm up. That's when things became real. FULL ARTICLE>>
