A STEP aHEAD REGISTRATION IS NOW OPEN!
|
AHAI, the Chicago Blackhawks, Athletico and NorthShore University HealthSystem are proud to announce the 6th year of the "A Step aHead" program, which provides free baseline neurocognitive testing and education on concussions to the youth hockey community. The program will run from July 1 through November 30, 2016. All AHAI players aged 11-18 years old are eligible for free baseline testing. Please note that registration will be online ONLY, do not call Athletico directly.
Additionally, the "A Step aHead" program will again provide concussion education to AHAI coaches, parents and players. Further information about the testing programs and educational opportunities will be available in the AHAI newsletter, AHAI emails and through your clubs. We look forward to another year of working with the hockey community to improve safety in the sport we all love!

 2016 REGISTRAR TRAINING SESSIONS ANNOUNCED
Dates are set for the Registrar Training Sessions for the 2016-17 Season. These training sessions are intended for those individuals that are the Registrars for their respective AHAI Affiliate Organizations. It is mandatory that Registrars attend one of the sessions. All sessions, with the exception of Bloomington, will begin at 7 PM, and will last less than 2 hours. All sessions will provide the same information. TIER II SUBSTITUTE CHOICE APPLICATION PROCESS IS NOW OPEN
The Tier ll Substitute Choice Application Process, for Bantam age divisions and below will begin on July 20, 2016. All applications will be submitted online. The Tier ll Committee will ONLY have (3) three appeal hearings this year for those denied a substitute choice. The dates for the appeals are August 10, August 24 and September 8, 2016. Appeal hearings will be held at 6:30pm on the aforementioned dates at the North Shore Ice Arena located at 2111 Founders Drive, Northbrook, IL 60062. If denied please email Gregg Chudacoff, AHAI Tier II Chairman, at gregg@generaltruckparts.com with your preferred appeal hearing date (listed above).  COMPREHENSIVE GUIDE TO GIRLS' HOCKEY IN ILLINOIS
The growth of girls' hockey nationwide is undeniable. The opportunities that have opened up for girls to play beyond their youth years is ever expanding. USA Hockey girls' registrations have grown by 36% over the last 10 years and 8U girls' numbers have grown by 57%. The recently formed National Women's Hockey League (NWHL) has given young ladies a chance to play professionally. The Junior Women's Hockey League (JWHL) is a league that mirrors some men's junior leagues in showcasing the girls for college scouts (CYA Girls are participating in this league). Finally, on a national level there are 35 NCAA Division I, 56 NCAA Division III, and 46 ACHA Club college hockey programs available to girls who wish to play hockey after high school. AHAI FOUNDATION GOLF OUTING IS CELEBRATING 20 YEARS!
The 20th Annual AHAI Foundation Golf Outing will be held at the Hilton Chicago Indian Lakes Resort, Friday, August 12, 2016. The purpose of this event is twofold. First, it creates an opportunity for coaches, referees, administrators, parents and supporters of amateur hockey in Illinois to come together for a day of fun and relaxation to kick off the beginning of the new season. Secondly, and most importantly, the revenues generated from this event will be donated each season to specific charities as established annually by the AHAI Foundation. READ MORE>>

 AGE-SPECIFIC COACHING MODULES OPEN
The Online Age-Specific Modules are now open for the 2016-17 season. Coaches must be current members of USA Hockey in order to register for the modules. The Illinois Hockey Officials' Association (IHOA) is pleased to announce the release of its officiating seminars for the coming season, which includes two "Girls Only" seminars. INAMOTO & KEANE TAPPED FOR 2016 U.S. U-18 SELECT TEAM

RANDL, DRURY & SMITH ROSTERED TO 2016 U.S. U-17 SELECT TEAM
USA Hockey announced the 20-man roster for the U.S. Under-17 Select Team that will compete at the Under-17 Five Nations Tournament Aug. 9-13 in Frisco, Texas. The roster includes 3 Illinois natives: Jack Randl (Carpentersville), Jack Drury (Winnetka) and Brady Smith (Palatine). READ MORE>>

 AHIHA HOSTS ANOTHER SUCCESSFUL CAMP By Teresa Burgin ~ Each year, hockey players from across the country gather in Chicago for the American Hearing Impaired Hockey Association's (AHIHA) week-long camp at the Seven Bridges Ice Arena where they learn about and improve their hockey skills. The 2016 AHIHA camp included 57 skaters and their families who traveled to Chicago from Maine to Alaska. This year 17 skaters were from Illinois, including 2015 Deaf Olympians, Max Finley and Derek Struwing. READ MORE>>

 BLACKHAWKS INTERMISSION AND PRE-GAME REGISTRATION NOW OPEN
The Chicago Blackhawks have opened their registration process for the 2016-17 JuniorHawks and Intermission slots next season. In order to participate in either event, your youth hockey team must be competing at the Mite or Squirt level. Due to the limited quantity of on-ice dates at the United Center, the Chicago Blackhawks select all hockey teams at random for each home game.
If you would like to enter your upcoming youth hockey team into the lottery process for either event, please fill out the corresponding forms. Teams selected for either event will be contacted with further details by Chicago Blackhawks Account Executive, Matt Brooks.

2016 BLACKHAWKS TRAINING CAMP FESTIVAL
Tickets for the Blackhawks Training Camp Festival are on sale now. Fans can purchase tickets for $5 by clicking HERE, by calling Ticketmaster at 800-745-3000 or by visiting any Ticketmaster location. 2016-17 TRY HOCKEY FOR FREE DAYS
USA Hockey announced that associations and rinks can register now to host Try Hockey For Free Days scheduled for the 2016-17 season. The first nationwide Try Hockey For Free Day will be Saturday, Nov. 12, 2016, as part of Come Play Hockey Month. 2017 LABATT BLUE/USA HOCKEY POND HOCKEY NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS
The 12th annual Labatt Blue/USA Hockey Pond Hockey National Championships will take place February 10-12, 2017. The event will once again be held on Dollar Lake in Eagle River, Wisconsin.
Event registration is expected to begin in early August, with an exact date to be announced later this month. As with all USA Hockey adult events, registration is done on a first-come, first-serve basis, and the event typically sells out on the same day registration begins. READ MORE>>
