INTRODUCING BLIND HOCKEY
Blind Hockey is the same exhilarating, fast-paced game that gets spectators out of their seats with only one main difference - all of the players are legally blind! The sport features an adapted puck that makes noise, and is both bigger and slower than a traditional puck. Players' levels of vision range from legally blind - approximately 10% vision or less - to totally blind, with the lowest vision athletes playing defense or goal. Blind Hockey is an excellent spectator sport as it is easily recognizable to the average hockey fan, with minimal rule adaptations to help with gameplay and player safety. READ MORE>>

ASK AHAI: GOALIE EXCEPTION RULE
QUESTION: I have an 8th grade son who is a goaltender; this coming fall the incoming freshman class will have 6 freshman goalies and 2 returning from last year. With only 2 teams being fielded, there will be cuts. Our son would like to play High School hockey instead of club, will you please explain the process of allowing goaltenders to play for another High School while attending school in a different district.

ANSWER: Thank you for asking about this process. Most parents/players do not understand the goalie exception rule and the purpose of the rule. Many erroneously believe that this rule essentially allows a goalie to be a "free agent" and choose where they will play. That is inaccurate to say the least. The purpose of the rule is twofold. First, there are programs that have too many goalies (i.e. 6 goalies in their program and, for example, only 2 teams) and it is impossible to provide playing time to all. At the same time, we have teams that do not have a goalie or a sufficient number of goalies in their program. The rule is designed to address these problems. This is a rule applicable to goalies only. READ MORE>>

ASK THE OFFICIAL BY DAVE ZEDNIK
QUESTION: The head coach is assessed a bench minor penalty for improper conduct during the first period. During the second period the coach again exhibits improper conduct. Is the coach assessed a game misconduct because the improper conduct has been repeated?

ANSWER: No. Rule Reference 601(b.1). The spirit and intent of the rule is to treat each incident separately. If the coach is assessed a bench minor penalty, he would only be assessed a game misconduct penalty provided he continues his actions regarding this incident. READ MORE>>
ROSS FORMAN'S HIGH SCHOOL HOCKEY
The skates have been sharpened, the sticks re-taped and even that nasty odor of hockey sweat is back. The High School Hockey Season has returned. Tryouts for most teams are complete and teams are now making internal decisions of which forwards to line up and which defensemen to pair up. And of course goalies are facing hundreds of slapshots, all hoping to stop the most and secure the starting role.

Welcome to the 2015-16 Season, where the ultimate goal for every team is to skate at the United Center next March. READ MORE>>
