NEW PARENT/SPECTATOR SUSPENSION RULE EFFECTIVE IMMEDIATELY

In an effort to help control inappropriate spectator behavior, the following AHAI rule is effective immediately.

A game will be stopped by on-ice officials when the parents/spectators displaying inappropriate or disruptive behavior interfere with other parents/spectators or the game. The on-ice officials will identify violators to the coaches for the purpose of removing parents/spectators from the parents'/spectators' viewing and game area. Once removed, play will resume. Lost time will not be replaced. Violators will incur a minimum mandatory 3-game suspension from that team's games and may be subject to further disciplinary action by the local governing body.

The reasons for this necessary minimum 3-game suspension rule are simple; last season there was a marked increase in parents'/spectators' behavior being out of control. These behaviors included verbal and physical altercations with officials, players and other spectators. Additionally clubs/teams that have a responsibility to help control and penalize these behaviors were asking for guidance from AHAI.

No matter why a spectator is asked to leave, the minimum suspension is 3 games. There is emphasis on a minimum of 3 games.

Here is how the reporting system works:

An official will file an electronic "Incident Report" detailing the official's version of the occurrence with the AHAI R&E Committee. The Committee sends the report to the spectator's club in order for the club to conduct an investigation. Upon completion of the spectator's club investigation (that should include talking to the accused spectator) the investigating club will report back to the AHAI R&E Committee for final approval of the minimum 3-game suspension or any additional imposed suspension.

This is a very simple rule. Any spectator asked to leave a rink by an official or by the rink personnel will automatically miss a minimum of 3 games. No questions asked.

ILLINOIS PLAYERS GRAB 23 OF 55 SPOTS ALLOCATED FOR THE CENTRAL DISTRICT TO ATTEND THE USA HOCKEY NATIONAL CAMPS!

By Doug Becht, AHAI Player Development Chairperson ~ The USA Hockey Central District is comprised of six (6) states, Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska and Wisconsin (Iowa, Kansas and Nebraska are called the Midwest States). Mr. Norm Spiegel is the USA Hockey Central District Player Development Coordinator who oversees the Central District Camp. Norm is also a USA Hockey Director Representative, serves on the USA Hockey Youth Council and on the USA Hockey Player Development Committee.

Norm took the time to go into each team's locker room on the first night to explain to all the players that they would ONLY be evaluated on their on ice efforts and the skills shown during this camp. He also explained that the allocations to move players on to the USA Hockey National Camp held in Amherst, New York is very limited. Of course, Norm also had the same discussion with all of the evaluators.

During this three (3) day camp held for the 1998, 1999 and 2000 birth year players the weekend of May 8th - 10th, in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin, Norm had 18 very highly respected evaluators in attendance. These included USA Hockey's Marc Boxer, whose responsibilities not only include all Junior Hockey, but also include all aspects of USA Hockey's Player Development Programs and Youth Hockey initiatives and governance in the United States, USA Hockey's Central District Coach-In-Chief, Doug Dietz, along with USA Hockey's American Development Model Regional Manager, Guy Gosselin, who is a two-time U.S. Olympian and member of three (3) U.S. Men's National Teams. Also included are other unbiased, high quality, very knowledgeable evaluators that come from within each District which includes ex-pro players, High School, College and Junior Coaches. SJOUKJE BROWN NAMED NEW CENTRAL DISTRICT REFEREE-IN-CHIEF
By Michael Barrett, Illinois Referee-in-Chief & Supervisor of Officials ~ Bob Cunningham was the Central District Referee-in-Chief for many years. Bob represented the District (which includes Illinois) extremely well over the course of his tenure and we were fortunate to have him during that time and in that capacity. Because of Bob's tireless efforts and accomplishments while District RIC, filling the Central District Referee-in-Chief position presented quite a challenge to the District.

I am very pleased to announce that the District has identified a person who not only possesses the skill sets necessary to fill the District RIC position but also someone who has consistently exhibited tireless efforts to improve the officiating community and work for the officials. Please join me in welcoming the new Central District Referee-in-Chief, our very own Sjoukje Brown.

ASK THE OFFICIAL BY DAVE ZEDNIK

QUESTION:  A player is standing in front of the opponent's goal and has his arms "tied up" with a defending player so that he cannot play the puck in the normal manner. The puck goes out in front of the goal and the attacking player kicks the blade of his stick which knocks the puck into the goal. Is this considered a legal goal?

ANSWER: No. Rule References 624(a) and 614(c). Even though the puck was not directly kicked with the skate, the puck entered the goal as the direct result of the kicking action. READ MORE>>

2015 USA HOCKEY GIRLS' PLAYER DEVELOPMENT CAMPS
We are excited about the changes to our 2015 USA Hockey Girls Player Development Camps. The changes allow for further development of our girls U18 player pool, support of our long-term development model and allows for a 17% increase in the number of girls participating at the National Camp level.  Given the value that is placed on our District Tryout process and the recognition of how vital the tryouts are to district and national decisions about who advances to USA Hockey National Camps, we must allow all district tryouts to be complete before finalizing all allotments to our three national camps (Girls U18 Select Player Development Camp, Girls U18 Player Development Camp, and the Girls 15 Player Development Camp).
