WIN HAWKS TIX!

Two (2) 300 Level Tickets to the Chicago Blackhawks vs. Minnesota Wild Game on Tuesday, December 16, 2014 at 7:30 p.m.

MID-SEASON CLASSIC: MITE CROSS-ICE TOURNAMENT AT THE UNITED CENTER

On December 28, USA Hockey and AHAI will take over the United Center for the Mid-Season Mite Cross-Ice Classic Tournament. AHAI Mite 8U teams will have the opportunity to participate in a cross-ice tournament that will include a minimum of 3 games, a championship, and lots of giveaways, including t-shirts and awards for the winners to name just a few. Participating teams will also get to watch a Chicago Blackhawks practice right in the middle of the tournament!

The United Center ice will be transformed into three ice surfaces with teams competing in three divisions: Gold, Silver, and Bronze. The concourse will be hopping; concession stands will be open and lots of activities available between games.

Due to the amount of United Center ice secured, there will be a limit of 6 teams at each level. This event is for 8U only (7 and 8 year olds) and teams that are registered with AHAI/USA hockey. Teams can register by sending an email to miteADM@ahai2.org. Include in that email the club name, team name, level at which team currently plays, a contact person and their name and email. Clearly indicate if the team is in a league and what level they play at in that league. READ MORE>>

IHHF INDUCTION DINNER

Illinois has a very long and rich hockey history due in large part to the foundation laid down by this year's Hall of Fame Inductees which include Builders Ray Berens, Derek Denoyer, Ned Forsberg and Rocky Wirtz; Players Lisa Chesson, Steve Cromie and John Murphy and Referees Sjoukje Brown and Jon Raslawski.

The IHHF Induction Dinner will be held in their honor on Sunday, January 25, 2015 at the Belvedere Banquet Hall. Tickets are available by contacting Norm Spiegel at 847.269.2922 or e-mail Norm at jacole@comcast.netFor additional information, please click HERE. See you there!

IHHF BIO SERIES: NED FORSBERG

Ned Forsberg grew up in Winnetka and attended New Trier High School. Although he skated at local park district outdoor rinks in the winter as a youth, he graduated from high school some years before the Winnetka Ice Arena was constructed. Accordingly, he never played organized hockey while growing up. After graduating from New Trier, Ned attended Northwestern University and graduated with a major in accounting. It was at NU that he met his wife, Linda. They married in September of 1970, moved to Wilmette shortly thereafter and then to Kenilworth in the spring of 1975. READ MORE>>

COACHING NEWS & INFORMATION
ASK THE COACH

QUESTION: I have received emails from AHAI that remind me that I have not yet taken a required Age Specific Module. I have since taken that missing Module, but I am still getting emails from AHAI telling me I will be suspended if I do not take it. What should I do?

ANSWER: The alerts that are being sent out are based on the most current information that we have received when each of the organizations have sent an update to the AHAI Webtool. If you have already taken an Age Specific Module, a CEP Clinic or done an online Level 3 Re-cert and you are still being notified by AHAI to do so, please ask your Club's Registrar to do an update. For the information to get into our database and onto the roster, the local organization Registrar must go into their USAH Registry program and sync at least once, then they must send an update to the AHAI Webtool. This will get the information into our database and be reflected on the rosters.  If your Registrar is uncertain how to do this, please contact Laura Johnson, the AHAI Registrar at registrar@ahai2.org for directions on how to do so.

IHOA NEWS & INFORMATION
LEVEL 1 & LEVEL 2 SEMINARS
ADDED IN DECEMBER

I hope this notice finds you healthy and enjoying your season thus far. I am pleased to announce that the Illinois Hockey Officials' Association (IHOA) added another seminar date for people who wish to become officials this year. IHOA added a new level 1 class as well as a level 2 class (returning officials) for Monday, December 22, 2014, at the Leafs Center in West Dundee. These seminars were added to accommodate additional demand for level 1 spots as well as make another date available for returning officials who may have missed one of the prior IHOA seminars. The seats available for the December 22 seminar are limited in number and are open on a first come first served basis. If you are interested or know of someone who might be interested in officiating this year please let them know about this added seminar. To register, please click HERE and follow the links for seminar registration. Have a wonderful Thanksgiving.

YOU MAKE THE CALL
BY DAVE ZEDNIK
CONSIDER THIS: A team has only one goalkeeper and he is injured during the course of the game and unable to continue. May any player take up the goalkeeper's position?

ANSWER: Yes. Rule References 206(b), 203(d) and Glossary.

In all games all teams are requested to have a substitute goalkeeper dressed and ready to play at the beginning of the game. In the case of a team having only one goalkeeper dressed and he becomes unable to play for any reason, the team must resume play immediately.

The team may elect:

(1) To play the remainder of the game using an extra "player," thereby having six players on the ice, none of whom are designated as a goalkeeper with goalkeeper's privileges and restrictions.

ATTENTION OFFICIALS: WE WANT YOUR FUNNY STORIES!
Illinois Officials, Jody Anderson, author of Hockey Moms Aren't Crazy and The Hockey Journal, is currently writing a new book featuring the trials, tribulations and amusing stories that go hand-in-hand with officiating and needs YOUR help! Send Jody your embarrassing, funny and/or behind the scene stories and you could be featured in her newest book! Please email your funny anecdotes to jody.anderson07@yahoo.com by July, 2015! AHAI hopes to see you in print soon!
 HIGH SCHOOL HOCKEY
ROSS FORMAN'S HIGH SCHOOL HOCKEY

Brothers Matt and Ryan Iaciancio have different paths to prepare for games. Matt, a senior center, spends time by himself and takes an ice bath. Ryan, a sophomore goalie, is always watching video tape of past games, whether he was playing in the game or just of his next opponent.

"Preparation is something that always helped me as a player and something I always talked about to them, but never really pushed them into it, but they really have adapted some good pre-game habits and it has been great to watch," said Nick Iaciancio, who doubles as Dad and Coach.

No one enjoys the true meaning of Thanksgiving more than the Iaciancio trio, which has helped build Providence Catholic into a state powerhouse and certainly a contender to skate for state next March at the United Center. Turkey and stuffing mix with slapshots and kick-saves for this family that lives in Tinley Park. READ MORE>>

Dear Illinois High School Hockey Player: we wanted to make you aware of a unique opportunity for all graduating Illinois High School Players. This is an annual scholarship which is provided by the Chicago Blackhawk Alumni Association to three Illinois High School hockey players.

The Alumni Association was formed in 1987 by former Blackhawk players (Stan Mikita, Keith Magnuson, Cliff Koroll, and many others) with one of the main goals being giving back to Illinois youth hockey, High School in particular. As a part of this charge, the Alumni awards three annual $5,000 scholarships (for 4 years) to "the most deserving high school hockey players" in the state. The selection process is determined not by talent, but by the following five criteria: Academics, Financial Need, Character, Community Service and Applicant Essay.
