MID-SEASON CLASSIC: MITE CROSS-ICE TOURNAMENT AT THE UNITED CENTER
|
On December 28, USA Hockey and AHAI will take over the United Center for the Mid-Season Mite Cross-Ice Classic Tournament. AHAI Mite U8 teams will have the opportunity to participate in a cross-ice tournament that will include a minimum of 3 games, a championship, and lots of giveaways, including t-shirts and awards for the winners to name just a few. Participating teams will also get to watch a Chicago Blackhawks practice right in the middle of the tournament!
The United Center ice will be transformed into three ice surfaces with teams competing in three divisions: Gold, Silver, and Bronze. The concourse will be hopping; concession stands will be open and lots of activities available between games. Due to the amount of United Center ice secured, there will be a limit of 6 teams at each level. Registration will open soon and will be announced in the next issue of SNAPSHOT. If part of your team is not available due to the holidays, you can create a tournament team from within your organization. Details will be sent to each AHAI mite U8 team once finalized.
This promises to be a "can't miss event"! With the support of USA Hockey and the Chicago Blackhawks, there is no doubt it will be a great day of hockey at the United Center.

ASK THE COACH
QUESTION: My Level 3 is expired or expiring this December. What do I need to do?
ANSWER: You must complete the online Level 3 re-certification (Track 1 or Track 2) or attend a Level 4 clinic AND complete the online Age Specific Module for each age level you are coaching if not previously taken prior to December 31 of the current playing season. You can no longer attend another Level 3 clinic to recertify your Level 3 certification. Coaches of National Tournament Bound Tier I 14U, 16U, and 18/19U and Tier II 16U and 18/19U teams must complete Level 4 the first year they are able to do so. Mite (8 and Under) coaches may remain at their current level (even if it is expired) until they move to another age level of play. You can determine which recertification track by looking at your information on the online certification list. Click on your name and you will see your full information. If there is one Level 3, then you would complete Track 1. If there are two Level 3s, then you would complete Track 2. If there are three or more Level 3s, then you must attend a Level 4 clinic. Questions? Click HERE to Ask the Coach.

GOALIE SCOTT FOSTER TALLIES

YOU MAKE THE CALL ~ BY IHOA'S DAVE ZEDNIK
|
CONSIDER THIS: A player who is about to come onto the ice plays the puck with his stick. However, that player has either one or both skates still on the bench. What penalty, if any, shall be assessed?
ANSWER: A minor penalty. Rule Reference 625(a.9). A player's skates must not be in contact with the bench in order for him to participate in the play. This ruling would apply whether or not the team has the correct number of players on the ice. In the case of a player entering or leaving the players' bench who intentionally plays the puck with one or both skates on the bench, the same ruling would apply.
