AHAI HIGH PERFORMANCE CEP CLINIC |
ADMIRALS HOCKEY CLUB PLAYS HOST TO USA HOCKEY & AHAI COACHES AT 1ST EVER AHAI HIGH PERFORMANCE CEP CLINIC
On Saturday, October 25, 50 coaches converged on Center Ice of DuPage for AHAI's High Performance Coaching Education Program (CEP) Clinic. Hosted by the Admirals Hockey Club, a USA Hockey Model Association, the AHAI High Performance CEP clinic was the first of its kind held in Illinois.
USA Hockey delivered several hours of updated content focusing on the American Development Model (ADM) from Mites through Midgets. As part of the instruction, the coaches watched as 35+ Squirts and PeeWees took the ice for a spirited station-based practice followed by cross-ice scrimmages. Ken Martel, Bob Mancini, Scott Paluch, and Michelle Amidon (all USA Hockey ADM staff) led the clinic as they discussed what the ADM is at each age level from U8 to U18. The smaller size class allowed for much more sharing of ideas and information among the coaches and USA Hockey staff.
Prior to the AHAI High Performance CEP Clinic on Saturday, USA Hockey conducted practices, coaching sessions, and parent meetings with the Admirals Hockey Club. As a USA Hockey Model Association, the Admirals enjoy the benefits of working closely with USA Hockey and its staff of professionals to implement the ADM at their club. WATCH VIDEO>>

ASK AHAI
QUESTION: I am a new manager of a High School team and I heard there is a consequence for playing too many games either up or down. I don't want to make a mistake. Can you explain this to me and point me to the rule in the AHAI Guide?
ANSWER: I am glad you asked that question. It is a question many have but few seem to ask. It is really pretty simple; there are basically 5 steps (Rules & Regulations: Article I, Section C, Items 11 and 12).
1. Split or "Cut" the players into Varsity OR JV (mark all Varsity players with a "V") on their rosters. READ MORE>>

YOU MAKE THE CALL ~ BY IHOA'S DAVE ZEDNIK
|
CONSIDER THIS: What criteria should be used when determining whether to assess a minor and a misconduct penalty, a major and game misconduct penalty or a match penalty for Checking from Behind?
ANSWER: The minor plus misconduct penalty must be assessed in the following situations:
(1) A player, in an attempt to catch an opponent who is skating ahead of him and not near the boards, pushes the opponent from behind, causing him to fall to the ice.
(2) A player makes minimal body contact from behind to an opponent who is in close proximity to him, and board contact is made. This check should be called as a minor and a misconduct as the result of this "pinch" against the boards from behind. READ MORE>>

STEVENSON'S JOHNNY DAUL
By Ross Forman ~ Johnny Daul has a love for hockey, a passion to be playing and representing his high school. And through his puck play, he gets to "show the younger guys how to make solid choices," he said. Clearly, Daul skates for all the right reasons. Daul, 18, who lives in suburban Kildeer, is a left-handed shooting left wing for the Stevenson High School JV. Yes, he's a senior on JV, his third season on the Patriots' JV team. "There are pros and cons to making any team; I just try to focus on the positives of the team that I am on today, (and) there are a lot of those," said Daul, undecided on college for next fall, though he's planning to major in business. AROUND THE RINK
By Ross Forman ~ Benet scored one of the most impressive wins in team history on Oct. 18, trouncing two-time defending state champion New Trier Green, 6-2, at Seven Brides Ice Arena in Woodridge ... Barrington took the ice Oct. 18 in Lincolnwood with the weight of a five-game losing streak. When the final horn sounded, the Broncos had defeated Loyola Gold, 3-2. And a few nights later, Barrington slipped past co-op Rockford, 7-6. Both were overtime wins ... Brother Rice defeated Lemont 5-2 in Oak Lawn on Oct. 16, anchored by 2 goals each from Frank Minicino and Brett Bagus. The win pushed the Crusaders to a 5-0 mark in the Illinois Suburban Hockey League. READ MORE>>

NHL HISTORY MADE SUNDAY NIGHT: HAWKS VS. SENATORS
NHL history was made when the puck dropped at 6pm at the United Center on Sunday, October 26. Two Illinois born goaltenders, Scott Darling (Lemont) and Craig Anderson (Park Ridge) were charged with minding their respective nets during the Chicago Blackhawks vs. Ottawa Senators game Sunday evening. The Blackhawks and Darling ultimately claimed a 2-1 victory over the Senators. Oddly enough...the last Chicagoan to mind the net for the Blackhawks? Anderson, who stopped 43 of the 45 shots on goal Sunday night. Darling made his NHL debut with the Blackhawks after being recalled from the Rockford IceHogs of the American Hockey League (AHL) on Tuesday, October 21. READ MORE>>

YOUR STINKY HOCKEY GEAR COULD BE

We know stinky hockey gear and bags are a great sense of pride for most hockey players. Heck, Jack O'Callahan, part of the "Miracle On Ice" 1980 US Olympic team that upset the mighty Russians, once wrote in an e-mail. "It's like the line in 'Apocalypse Now,' modified a bit: 'I love the smell of my stinky hockey bag in the morning. It smells like Victory.'" We also know that Mom does NOT feel the same! So...we challenge you to send us your funniest video proving why you have the stinkiest hockey bag in Illinois! One smelly winner will receive:
2 tickets (Section 311; Row 12) to Hawks vs. Stars game on Sunday, November 16 at 6pm
1 super cool AHAI/Howies Hockey Tape T-shirt
