Greetings!

Fall has been beautiful this year, but there has been a chill in the air the last few days!  Did the cold weather cause you to scramble to figure out what to wear this morning?

A Closet Diet
If switching clothes from season to season is a chore, it would help to reduce the amount of clothes you have.  Now is a great time to clear out some of those summer clothes.

Here are some things to consider while deciding what to keep and what to give away:
  1. Is is worn out?   Summer materials tend to stain and wear out quickly. That white blouse that looked great last year, may be getting dingy and worn out.
  2. Did you wear it this summer? Do you have clothes that you haven't worn for years?  If you don't wear it, why not let it go before it goes out of style and no one can use it?
  3. Is it still in style?  We all have our favorite things we wear year after year.  But, at some point, we need to take a critical look and figure out if it is still in fashion.
  4. Does it still fit?  A good rule of thumb is to only keep clothes that are one size up and one size down.  By the time you lose or gain that much weight, there is a good chance it will be out of style.

Reducing the amount of clothes you have will make it easier to switch from season to season, and keep you looking your best!  If you have a hard time making decisions on what to give up, ask a friend to come over who will give you honest feedback.

TIP:  Hang all your winter clothes with the hanger head pointing out into the room instead of the wall.  As you wear and return your clothes to your closet, hang them normally.  Next spring, you'll be able to easily identifiy clothes that you didn't wear this winter!

If the thought of going through your clothes and organizing your closet is overwhelming, I'd be happy to help.  Don't hesitate to send me an email at cathy@neatchicny.com or post a question on my facebook page.
