Greetings!
We are in the midst of gift buying season for the holidays and I wanted to say a few words about buying gifts when you really don't know what to get someone.

What looks like a gift to you, might later end up looking like clutter to the person receiving it. My clients often tell me they can't give up something they don't like, and don't use, "because so and so gave it to me".
Don't contribute to the clutter! If you really don't know what to give someone, resist giving them a knick knack, tchotchke, doodad or whatever you call a small item that has no use! Rather than cluttering up their homes with things they may not want, here are some other suggestions:
- Get them a gift card to their favorite restaurant or coffee shop. Believe me, there is a lot of joy and a lot less guilt in using a gift card to buy that $5 latte.
- How about some food - chocolate, wine, fancy nuts or anything you know they'll enjoy.
- Do they have a favorite charity? I have a friend who donates to my favorite charity every holiday and I really appreciate it.
- How about donating your time to a senior and giving them coupons to be used for visits to the grocery store, hairdresser or lunch?
- Or get them a gift certificate to a service you know they will use and enjoy - like a massage.
- Finally, how about other items that can be used up like hand soap, lotions, postage stamps, etc.
I'm sure you can think of many other great ideas for the people in your life. Give them something they can use, won't clutter up their homes, nor eventually our landfills!
