Hall County Sheriff's Citizens Academy 2014
October 7th-November 13, 2014
The Hall County Sheriff's Office Citizen's Academy is an interactive program designed to inform citizens about the role of the Sheriff's Office in our community and allow them to gain firsthand knowledge about the inner workings of the department. The program consists of ten sessions, every Tuesday and Thursday afternoons from 6-9pm conducted in both classroom setting as well as a field demonstration format, with voluntary limited participation.
Upon acceptance into the program, participants can expect informative sessions that examine all aspects of the Sheriff's Office, presented by Officers that are among the department's most knowledgeable and well-trained staff.
While participants will be exposed to the exciting aspects of law enforcement work, they will also become familiarized with some of the processes that are much less glamorous but no less vital to the daily operation of the agency.
Objectives:
Upon successful completion of the Sheriff's Citizen's Academy, each graduate will:
- Gain better understanding of how the HCSO is organized, the function of each unit and achieve appreciation for the daily challenges facing law enforcement professionals.
- Possess the skill and desire to identify, recruit and mentor potential candidates for employment within the HCSO as well as future participants in the HCCA.
- Be an advocate for the HCSO by giving citizens a better understanding of what the Sheriff's Office role is in our community.
- To Increase the public's understanding of law enforcement duties and responsibilities in order to foster cooperative problem solving between the Hall County Sheriff's Office and the Hall County Community.
It should be noted that the Citizens Academy is an informational program only. At no time will participants be expected or permitted to act in a law enforcement capacity, and successful completion of the program does not certify them as a law enforcement officer in any way.

"Sheriff Gerald Couch congratulated the Hall County Sheriff's Office Court Services Captain Chris Matthews on 30 years of dedicated service to the citizens of Hall County, Tuesday. Under his leadership in the Court Services Division, the Hall County Sheriff's Office has been pleased to provide our community with the Sheriff's Christmas Bicycle Program and the annual Citizens Academy, as well as many other services. Please join us in saying "thank you" for his selfless service and time spent protecting the community..."
"The Quartermaster's Unit of the Hall County Sheriff's Office was recognized in a special ceremony Tuesday, held at the administrative HQ. Sheriff Gerald Couch praised these "Unsung Heroes" of the Hall County Sheriff's Office for their efficiency and effectiveness in helping to save the citizens of Hall County through their exceptional budgeting efforts, while maintaining our aging fleet of patrol vehicles! Due to the high mileage placed on many of the vehicles, several have long needed replacing and refurbishing. The Quartermaster's Unit took on the task with tremendous results that were worthy of recognition before their peers. Thank you's to (L-R): Deputy John Morgan, (Sheriff Gerald Couch), Lieutenant Donna Welsh (Quartermaster), Assistant Carrie Cash and Deputy Chad Suttles."

Hall County's Sheriff's Civilians Firearms Safety Course
We enjoyed a sunny day out on the range with another round of our Civilians' Firearms Safety Course. After formalized classroom instruction, attendees were permitted to partake in a closely-monitored practical drill. The course is geared toward those who are new to firearms ownership and Georgia's carrying laws. It's offered on an on-going basis. To learn the basics and become familiar with your own handgun, stay tuned for the next!

Reserve Deputies - HCSO
Outstanding group pictured here! The Hall County Sheriff's reserve program is directed by Captain Harry Chapman. It was initiated to take advantage of an existing pool of retired law enforcement officers and officers who had moved on to careers in the private sector. These officers still possess a strong desire to continue serving while maintaining their law enforcement training and certifications.
This program is based strictly upon volunteerism, and the only associated cost is that of issuing each officer his or her basic equipment. These experienced men and women volunteer their time to work on major events such as parades, sporting events, and other functions requiring a large law enforcement presence, thus allowing full time officers to continue their regular duties, while saving the taxpayers of Hall County all salary expenses. In addition, much of the marine patrol activities on Lake Lanier are handled by these reserve Deputies.
Through the end July of 2014, the Reserve Unit has accumulated and worked approximately 302 hours. By "picking up the slack" and putting in the hours performing necessary law enforcement functions, they have saved Hall County citizens from picking up the $36,015.39 tab! Please join us in saying "Thank you" to those in this photo who may be working this weekend in the "Thunder in the Mountains" motorcycle ride to benefit the Georgia Sheriffs' Youth Homes...

Brawl in the Hall for the Ga Sheriff's Youth, and all...
The Hall County Sheriff's Office hosted their first professional wrestling event to benefit the children in the Georgia Sheriffs' Youth Homes, on August 9th. The North Hall Community Center in Gainesville set the stage for "The Brawl in Hall". Over 700 eager wrestling fans came out to enjoy a fun family evening out with some of their all-time favorite wrestling legends like Nikita Koloff "The Russian Nightmare", Buff "The Stuff" Bagwell, "The Dog-Faced Gremlin" Rick Steiner and a few other Mid Atlantic Championship Wrestling superstars! The wrestlers also signed autographs, ate pizza with sponsors and talked about old times together.
We were humbly grateful to play a role in bringing the community together again for another event to benefit the Georgia Sheriffs' Youth Homes. For more information on GSYH, please visit them online at www.georgiasheriffsyouth.com. You can reach us with general inquiries at (770)531-6900 during normal business hours. Hope to see YOU at the next "Brawl"...

Burining CD's and DVD's with Windows 7
1. When you first insert the blank CD/DVD, Windows will pop up an AutoPlay dialog box. Start by clicking the option for Burn files to disc.
2. Now you are presented with the Burn a Disc dialog box. Before moving further, I would like to point out there are multiple ways to arrive at this point. If you right click on any file or files, you can choose Send to -> DVD RW Drive. You can also double click the CD icon within the My Computer screen.
3. On the Burn a Disc dialog, you have two choices. You can either make the CD function like a flash drive or finalize it for use on older computers or consumer devices. To ensure maximum compatibility, it's a good idea to select With a CD/DVD player. If you are just carrying files around the office, the Like a USB flash drive will allow you to use the CD/DVD multiple times instead of wasting a whole disc on a word document or spreadsheet.
4. If you select With a CD/DVD player, you will be presented with a new window. This window contains all of the items you want to burn to disc. You can drag files to this window or you can right-click files and hit Send to -> DVD RW Drive as was mentioned earlier. Once you have all the files you want to burn inside the window, click the Burn to disc button to create the disc.

Your first call should be the Hall County Help Desk at 770-531-6704. The Help Desk is available for any County computer work-related issue Monday-Friday from 8 am to 5 pm.
If your need is less urgent, you can also email the Help Desk, and a technician will contact you. |
