Answer the riddles below...
Colored as a maiden's cheek This runs smoother
Time was naught when i began Than a Rhyme
Into the garden I was sneaked Loves to fall
I alone am the fall of man... But cannot climb...
This thing runs around the city Goes up and down the stairs
But never moves... without ever moving...
The more it dries You can catch this
The wetter it gets... But you can't throw it...
Goes over all the hills and hollows You throw this out when you
Bites quite hard but never swallows... Want to use it but take it in
When you no longer need it...
I am diamonds that are lost by the moon I take you by night
Found by the sun and picked up soon... By day take you back
None suffer to have me
But do from my lack...
I cut through evil like a sword
Chaos flees at my approach What goes up and
Symbolized by a balance Never comes down...
I am often said to be blind...

Serving the Community HCSO

This is the perfect way to end a long Summer month... Brayden Thornton of Gainesville dropped in on us in July to show his support and get a tour of a Hall County Sheriff's Office Patrol car. Brayden had also stopped in to see our friends at the Gainesville Police Department to get an idea of how the daily operations of Law Enforcement agencies work together for the good of our community. One day Brayden hopes to trade in his Junior Deputy badge for the real thing! Best wishes to our buddy, Brayden and the Thornton family, for a bright and successful future... |
We are proud to announce that Sheriff Gerald Couch has been named the recipient of the prestigious 2014 Georgia Sheriffs' Association President's Award.
The award, which is given to one Georgia sheriff each year, is designed to recognize a sheriff who has made a significant contribution to the Georgia Sheriffs' Association Youth Homes. Sheriff Couch received the award on July 22nd during the Georgia Sheriffs' Youth Homes banquet inside the Legacy Lodge at Lake Lanier Islands Resort.
Since taking office, Sheriff Couch has tirelessly promoted the loving and nurturing environment of the Georgia Sheriffs' Youth Homes by hosting two fundraising events during his first year as Sheriff, and another three events planned for 2014.
Sheriff Gerald Couch believes in the foundations of education, healthy relationships and positive influences in addition to striving within his community to improve the services rendered by the Hall County Sheriff's Office.
Of course, the events WOULD NOT have been a success without YOUR support... Therefore, a very heartfelt "Thank you" to our Hall County community for all of your support!

Peachtree Road Runners from HCSO
Sheriff Gerald Couch and everyone at the Hall County Sheriff's Office are very proud of our "Peachtree Road Runners"! We would like to recognize the extraordinary efforts of this group of agency employees who were dedicated to go the extra mile this past 4th of July.
It may have been a first for some in our group, but definitely not a "once in a lifetime" moment for Patrol Division's Stuart Dailey. Deputy Dailey has participated in the Peachtree Road Race each year for the past 27 races! A proud graduate of West Hall High School and a former member of the track team, Deputy Dailey adds "The goal is to go out there and just have fun! You don't have to try and run your fastest time. Don't take it too serious, or you'll miss the experience."
Looking back to his previous Peachtree runs, Deputy Dailey can fondly remember two big moments in races past. The first was in 2002, not even a full year after 9/11. He recalls people standing along the sidewalks shouting "U-S-A!" as the runners passed by. Electricity filled the air in similar fashion last year, following the incident at the Boston Marathon. Spectators, once again, crowded the sidewalks to inspire and motivate runners with cheers of overwhelming support.
Deputy Dailey stated "It was a patriotic moment... I may not be most fanatic patriot, but that was a common thread that bound us together to push through that race. It really pulled folks together."
Alondra Campa (CID) announced that she successfully topped her previous Peachtree 10K finish. With her time of 57:26, she shouted "I shaved off 3 minutes!"
The group also shared a laugh over some of the costumes worn by other participants in the Peachtree Road Race. There was talk of forming an even larger team, organizing a theme and wearing costumes to represent the Sheriff's Office in next year's 10K.
To add some encouragement for those who have yet to get off the couch, Lieutenant Scott Wiley said "It's not as hard as you would think".
Lieutenant Stephanie Gilbert made her first appearance in the Peachtree Road Race this year. She echoed Lieutenant Wiley and admits that she would gladly participate again without hesitation. Although, she did acknowledge "Cardiac Hill was the hardest."
In preparation for the Hall County Sheriff's Office "Hot Pursuit 5K" (7/19/14) to benefit the Georgia Sheriffs' Youth Homes, Sergeant Kiley Sargent offered the following advice "I would say that training and exercising would make you better, but my results in the Peachtree say otherwise."

Your friends at the Hall County Sheriff's Office want to make you aware of another recurring phone scam... From the onset of 2013, Georgia Power advised that their company had fielded more than 650 calls of suspected billing scams before the end of last Summer.
Just this past week, the Hall County Sheriff's Office received reports of the scam recirculating through our community. Thus far, we have only had a handful of incidents of this type of scam in the Summer of 2014. The callers seem to be targeting residents and businesses.
Scammers will call their victims stating that their electricity is about to be cut off, unless they pay the past due amount on their utility bills. To pay one's bill, you must purchase a prepaid debit card and provide the caller with your card's account number. Once the requested number(s) are given, the circuit has been completed! Your money is gone, and the scammer moves on to the next.
Last year, Georgia Power also stated that there had been some individuals going door-to-door claiming to be business representatives of the company, asking for payment from residents. Contrarily, Georgia Power advises that the only representatives that they would have paying you a visit would be their technicians. These utility workers will be in uniform, bearing the company ID badge. They also explained that they do not call their customers to speak directly and ask them for a payment via phone. Customers may receive an automated, pre-recorded message asking them to call Georgia Power to discuss their accounts.
If you believe that you have fallen victim to a utility phone scam, please call the Hall County Sheriff's Office for more information. Our Community Service Office will be glad to help by answering your questions during normal business hours, at (770)531-6900. You can also call our non-emergency dispatch to have a Deputy come out and make a report, at (770)536-8812.

The Hall County Sheriff's Office Honor Guard participated in the Reunion Country Club benefit for Georgia's Fallen Military Heroes and their families. The Golf Tournament took place on 7/21/14 at Reunion Country Club in Hoschton (Hall County). After a touching tribute and salute from the Hall County Sheriff's Honor Guard, participants loaded up their clubs and carted off down the 18-hole course for a chance at some nice prizes like free tickets to the Gwinnett Gladiators' games, Falcon football memorabilia and a Green Egg grill! Posters and signs around the course reminded the golfers of the reason they got all teed up on a rainy and dreary Monday to raise funds for this worthwhile cause.
Grateful for the invitation, our Honor Guard is ready to answer the call wherever that may lead them.

900 mile mission comes to Hall County
Deputy Ricky Nix was ready at the wheel before the rains came down today, to provide a law enforcement escort through Hall County to the final stop in 10-time Iron Man Dave Nazaroff's 900 mile-mission in Gainesville.
The journey from NY to GA has helped raise over $60,000 for 11-year-old Callie Truelove of Gainesville. Callie was born with Williams syndrome. The monies raised will assist the family in installing a new therapy room in her family's Gainesville home. |
