1st Lieutenant Stephen Wilbanks' Promotion
HCSO
Please join Sheriff Gerald Couch and everyone at the Hall County Sheriff's Office in congratulating 1st Lieutenant Stephen Wilbanks, on his promotion to the rank of Captain in our Uniform Patrol Division. Captain Wilbanks will be commanding the Division responsible for providing First Responder Law Enforcement Service to our residents. In addition, Captain Wilbanks will oversee the operations of our Crime Prevention Unit. His appointment will better enable us to meet the goal of our mission, which is to join in partnership with the residents of Hall County to create safe communities, reduce the opportunity for crime, and to conduct outreach activities to promote strong relationships with our citizens! |

8th Annual Day of Remembrance for the Hall County Sheriff's Office
Sheriff Gerald Couch and the Hall County Sheriff's Office Honor Guard were grateful for the invitation to participate in the Memorial Day parade in Gainesville.
Shortly after winding their way downtown, Sheriff Couch arrived at the Veterans Garden in Memorial Park Cemetery. There, he addressed the crowd gathered to remember our fallen veterans and men & women of law enforcement who were taken prematurely while serving in the line of duty.
Over the entire 24 hour Memorial Day salute in the cemetery garden, Hall County Sheriff's Deputies and Gainesville Police Officers marched to honor the sacrifice made by our heroes. The ceremony is very similar to that of which is conducted in Arlington National Cemetery, annually.
This year, the United States Honor Flag was be flown high above the Veterans Gardens, during our 24-hour ceremony. This is the original flag flown over "Ground Zero" after the 9/11 terrorists attacks. It has since flown over 6 million miles in funerals for our Public Safety and Military Heroes, National Fallen Firefighters Foundation Memorial, the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial, State Memorials, at the U.S. Capitol, on State Capitols, atop The Pentagon, Presidential Libraries, in US Combat Theaters and VA Hospitals, atop the USS Lexington and the Seattle Space Needle, at various professional sporting events and even in missions by the NASA space program!
We hope you made the most of this prime opportunity to thank a veteran, for the sacrifice made to preserve our freedom. May we never forget!

Hall County Sheriff's Office participates in Hall County's Teen Maze
Spent some quality time with the youth at Wood's Mill Academy for Hall County's Teen Maze event on 5/1/14. The Teen Maze gives youth a real life look at the consequences of their decisions, good or bad, before they have real world experiences. It was fitting that the day also marked the beginning of Youth Traffic Safety Month, across the world...
The Hall County Sheriff's Office and Jail demonstrated the possible repercussions of drinking and driving. We partnered with our public safety friends and other criminal justice counterparts to send a very strong message to youth who may encounter a similar scenario after leaving a party this Summer.
Our mock wreck scene focused on teens who left a party intoxicated with alcohol. The choices made by the teens in the scenario resulted in three drastically changed lives. In turn, our participants entered the maze to explore topics such as teen pregnancy, diseases, child care, graduation, probation and more! Glad to have made an impact! We eagerly await the next opportunity to influence our next generation! |

Vacation Home Checks
HCSOPlan on leaving town when school lets out for the Summer? As a service to the citizens of Hall County, the Sheriff's Office offers the vacation home check program. If you are scheduled to be away from home for two nights or longer, you may submit a request for Deputies to conduct security checks of your home during your absence. Please understand that due to manpower restrictions and variations in the volume and nature of calls that the patrol shift is handling, vacation home checks are conducted on an "as available" basis. The Sheriff's Office cannot guarantee that a residence will be checked at specific times of the day or a minimum number of times while a homeowner is away. Note that this service is available only to residents in the service area of the Hall County Sheriff's Office. If you live in the city limits of Gainesville, Oakwood, Flowery Branch, or Braselton please contact those agencies to inquire about similar services. To request this service, please visit http://www.hallcounty.org/sheriff/sheriff_crimeprevent.asp#vac and provide the required information. Please try to make requests three to five days in advance. |

Forgetting a Wireless Network
Sometimes you might encounter a wireless network that your computer won't connect to, even though you have successfully connected before. An easy way to remove all existing settings for the network and start from scratch is to "forget" the network. These steps apply to Windows 7:
- Click Start, then type manage wireless in the Search box.
- Select Manage wireless networks in the results list.
- Right-click on the wireless network you are having an issue with and select Remove network.
- In the warning dialog box, click OK. The network will be removed from the list.
- Close the Manage wireless networks window.
- Try to connect to the wireless network again. If it is password protected, you will be prompted to enter the password.
Your first call should be the Hall County Help Desk at 770-531-6704. The Help Desk is available for any County computer work-related issue Monday-Friday from 8 am to 5 pm.
If your need is less urgent, you can also email the Help Desk, and a technician will contact you. |
