Celebrate July 4th with Fireworks at Laurel Park
Hall County Government invites residents to enjoy spectacular fireworks on July 4 at Laurel Park, benefitting the American Legion Paul E. Bolding Post 7. Hall County Parks and Leisure, Sheriff's Office, Fire Services, Public Works, Public Safety and the Correctional Institution donate services each year to support this longstanding local tradition.
Laurel Park is located at 3100 Old Cleveland Hwy, Gainesville. Gates will open at 9 a.m. for visitors to enjoy the sports facilities, playground, spray ground, dog park and views of Lake Lanier. A spectacular fireworks display, provided by the American Legion and Hall County Government, begins at dusk. Parking is $5 per car. Snow cones, hot dogs and other concessions will be sold by North Georgia Boy Scouts.
Boat ramps at Laurel Park will be closed July 4 to make more room for event parking, but boaters are invited to launch at Clarks Bridge Park or Little River Park boat ramps nearby and watch the fireworks from the water.

Employee Recognition Captain Andre Niles & Officer Richard Ellis
On June 16, 2013 Captain Andre Niles and Officer Richard Ellis of the Hall County Marshal's Office were working security during a soccer tournament at Tadmore Park in east Hall County and a fatal shooting occurred during that tournament that tragically took the life of one man and caused panic and fear in the heart and minds of innocent bystanders. Capt. Niles and Officer Ellis immediately rushed into action, heroically subduing the suspect and securing the crime scene. The safetey and well-being of the public was protected and restored because of these two individuals, who actions presented futher chaos and, quite possibly, the loss of additional lives. Capt. Niles and Offier Ellis were presented with a Proclamation by Hall County Board of Commissioners. |
Remember to use common sense on Independence Day...
The Hall County Fire Marshal's Office is reminding the public to leave the fireworks to the "pros" this Independence Day. Hall County Fire Marshal Scott Cagle says, "There will be plenty of opportunities to watch professional shows instead of putting children and others at risk with personal fireworks."
Some fireworks are legal in Georgia, primarily those that emit sparkles and not the aerial type nor the exploding type commonly known as fire crackers. If you have to go to another state to buy them, that's a pretty good indication that they are illegal in Georgia. Even though we do not recommend citizens use personal "legal" fireworks at all, we understand that a lot of people will still use them, so we encourage everyone to be careful and abide by these common safety tips:
Fireworks Safety Tips...
- Use fireworks outdoors only.
- Obey local laws. If fireworks are not legal where you live, do not use them.
- Always have water handy (a hose or bucket) or a fire extinguisher.
- Shoot the fireworks on sturdy level ground (asphalt or concrete is best)
- Only use fireworks as intended. Don't try to alter them or combine them.
- Never re-light a "dud" firework. Wait 20 minutes and then soak it in a bucket of water.
- Use common sense. Spectators should keep a safe distance from the shooter, and the shooter should wear safety glasses.
- Alcohol and fireworks do not mix. Have a "designated shooter."
- Only persons over the age of 12 should be allowed to handle sparklers of any type. Sparklers can burn in the excess of 1200 degrees Fahrenheit.
- Do not ever use homemade fireworks made of illegal explosives: They can kill you! Report illegal explosives to the fire or ploice department in you community.
- NEVER discard fireworks in the trash - soak them in a bucket of water first!
Here are public shows that citizens can enjoy:
- July 3rd @ University Yacht Club 9:30pm
- July 4th @ Lanier Islands/Water Park 9:30pm
- July 4th @ Laurel Park 9:00pm
*Times are approximate...
** When attending fireworks shows, remember, do not block any roadway, public right of way, or fire hydrant with your vehicle**
For more information you can contact Capt. Scott Cagle, Fire Marshal at scagle@hallcounty.org or Lt. Beverley Walker, Fire/Life Safety Educator at bwalker@hallcounty.org or by calling 770.531.6838.

Hall County Logo Survey
Katie Crumley, Public Information Officer

Hall County Government employees,
We need your input on the design for a new County logo. A survey is available, which asks for opinions as to what color scheme should be used, what images should be included, and other general questions regarding the logo's overall design.
The survey also offers an opportunity to submit your own logo designs and any ideas you may have regarding a new slogan for Hall County.
Also included in the survey is an opportunity to sign up to participate in a focus group session to further develop a new logo design. The survey results and information gathered during the focus groups will dictate the overall tone of the logo and help to create some options to present to the Hall County Board of Commissioners, who will select the final design.
A new logo will be beneficial in several ways: a Hall County logo would act as a marketing tool for the area, giving it brand recognition, which could ultimately play a factor in economic development and the County's overall success in the future. It would also lend itself to providing consistency across all County departments. Every employee's letterhead and business card would ultimately have the same logo and design, which would also provide consistent recognition by the public for County government services.
The Hall County seal, which has served as the County's logo in the past, will continue to serve as the County seal and will continue to be used in an official capacity, such as on legal documents, in the future.
Please Click here for more information and to complete the survey. The online survey will be available through July 5.

New Hire Orientation
New Employee Orientation is a critical part of any new hire process. Orientation can help a new employee learn about the organization and it's values, important policies, benefits, and pay information. Orientation often serves as an "introduction" to the organization.
Human Resources has developed a new and more extensive New Employee Orientation, that will kick off July 9. The new Orientation program will include an introduction to the facilities and locations of various County departments, contact information, and employee programs. It will also include a session on critical policies and procedures, payroll information, benefits orientation, as well as Customer Service training.
Because of the importance of timeliness in benefits enrollment, and the value of introducing new employees as soon as possible to Hall County, and its mission and policies, attendance at New Employee Orientation will be a requirement of the new hire process. New employees and managers will be given information and reminders of upcoming New Employee Orientation sessions. Managers or Directors should make arrangements for their new employee to attend Orientation.
Human Resources welcomes your ideas, feedback, and questions regarding the New Employee Orientation program. If you would like more information, please contact Becky Ruffner or Joni Holloway in Human Resources.

A.D.V.A.N.C.E. CAMP
The Hall County Sheriff's Office 10-week A.D.V.A.N.C.E. program has been used as a template for the Georgia Sheriffs' Association C.H.A.M.P.S. initiative. Strategies of A.D.V.A.N.C.E. include emphasis on the development of social competence, conflict resolution, and positive alternatives to drugs, violence, cyber bullying, and gang activity. Young people learn life-lessons on personal safety, stranger danger, internet safety, and water safety through the fifth-grade curriculum.
Building on the foundation provided to our fifth graders in the A.D.V.A.N.C.E. program, the annual summer camp is a treat for over 250 young people to take part in, free of charge. To date, over 2700 children have attended the A.D.V.A.N.C.E. Summer Camp. This year's students enjoyed field trips which included a cookout and public safety display at Laurel Park, a safari adventure at the Atlanta Zoo, and a graduation party on Lake Lanier Islands Beach and at the Waterpark.
Special thanks from Sheriff Couch to all who worked, attended and volunteered - or, in any way took part of - this year's A.D.V.A.N.C.E. Camp! See you next time... |
Police Academy Graduates
Sheriff Couch and everyone at the Hall County Sheriff's Office wish to congratulate our latest round of Police Academy graduates: Jourdan Smith, John Morgan, Sean Doyne and Todd Abercrombie!
The new Deputies were sworn in by Hall County Sheriff Gerald Couch after graduation at the Police Academy in Athens. These are the pictures from their graduation ceremony. Deputy Doyne received the Top Gun award for his excellent marksmanship skills, among those who graduated in the 261st class of the Athens Regional Police Academy! Please join us in congratulating them on this terrific accomplishment!
