March 1st - Employee Appreciation Day

I wanted to take this opportunity to express my sincere gratitude to the employees of Hall County Government.  Your daily commitment to serve the citizens of this community is a noble endeavor, and I am honored to work alongside each of you.   Over the past several years, your loyalty has not gone unnoticed as the economy has been a challenge and all employees were asked to do more with less.  I thank you for your perseverance and congratulate you on the financial strides that Hall County continues to make in that process.  Please know how much I and the County Commissioners value your hard work and dedication.  Your commitment to excellence and the care in which you approach your daily responsibilities is a testament to your professionalism and concern for the citizens we serve. Without you, the quality of life in Hall County would not be what it is today.  Your loyalty and devotion is embodied in our mission to the citizens of the County which is to promote, encourage and develop a strong, viable community and ensure that all citizens share in prosperity by providing efficient, accessible, and responsible public service.  On Employee Appreciation Day and every day you are valued for all you do!

We appreciate you too! Join us at the OO Coffee Shoppe, located on the lobby level of the Hall County Government Center, between 7:30am-5:00pm on Friday, March 1st for a complimentary cup of gourmet Fresh Cup or Organo Gold Healthy Coffee.

5 Year Cancer Survivor

Peggy Dooley

I would like to thank my co-workers, in Finance and Purchasing who put such a wonderful luncheon together in celebration of reaching my 5 yr survivor status. It really made this time so special.  I have not had such a great valentine's day in my life.

I know I am blessed by being cured of my cancer, but also to have worked with such great people who supported me through this time.  I thank God each and everyday for all of his blessings to me and for all the wonderful people he has brought into my life.

Thanks Finance and Purchasing, you ROCK!

Hall County STAR Students

Two students with direct ties to Hall County Government were honored last week as STAR students, an honor bestowed upon Georgia's outstanding high school seniors and the teachers who have been most instrumental in their academic development.

William Morris, son of Hall County Public Defender Brad Morris, was selected as STAR student from Gainesville High School. William plans to attend Harvard University, where he will major in history.

Meanwhile, Mallory Puckett, daughter of Hall County Traffic Engineer Scott Puckett, was selected as STAR student from East Hall High School. Mallory plans to major in music at Berry College or Kennesaw State University.

"We congratulate these students as well as their parents on their academic success, and we wish them the very best in their future endeavors," said Hall County Assistant Administrator Marty Nix.

To obtain the STAR nomination, high school seniors must have the highest SAT score and be in the top 10 percent or top 10 students of their class based on grade point average. In addition, nominees' SAT scores must be equal to or higher than the latest available national average on the math, critical reading and writing sections of the test.

5 tips on how to reduce spam

  1. Take advantage of the Junk E-mail Filter in Microsoft Office Outlook 2007     Office Outlook 2007 helps to mitigate the problem of spam by providing the Junk E-mail Filter, which automatically evaluates incoming messages and sends those identified as spam to the Junk E-mail folder.
  2. Block pictures in HTML messages that spammers use as Web beacons     Office Outlook 2007 has an additional anti-spam feature. By default, this feature blocks automatic picture downloads and other external content in messages if the content is linked to a server. If you open a message that has external content when this feature is turned off, the external content downloads automatically, inadvertently verifying to the server that your e-mail address is a valid one. Your e-mail address can then be sold to a spammer. You can unblock external content for messages that come from sources that you trust.
  3. Limit the places where you post your e-mail address     Be cautious about posting your e-mail address on public Web sites, such as newsgroups, chat rooms, bulletin boards, and so forth. When visiting public sites, you might want to use an e-mail address that is different from your main e-mail address. Remove your e-mail address from your personal Web site. Whenever you list or link to your e-mail address, you increase your chances of being spammed.
  4. Don't reply to spam     Never reply to an e-mail message - not even to unsubscribe from a mailing list - unless you know and trust the sender, such as when the e-mail message comes from a service, an online store, or newsletter that you have signed up with. Answering spam just confirms to the spammer that your e-mail address is an active one.
  5. Don't forward chain e-mail messages     Besides increasing overall e-mail volume, by forwarding a chain e-mail message you might be furthering a hoax - and meanwhile, you lose control over who sees your e-mail address.
