Hall County Commissioners appoint Davis as Warden
The Hall County Board of Commissioners has appointed Walt Davis as warden of the Hall County Correctional Institute.
Davis has nearly 30 years of experience in criminal justice, including numerous senior management positions with the State Board of Pardons and Paroles. Those positions include Division Director, Clemency and Parole Selection Division and Assistant Division Director.
"I am honored to have been selected by the Board of Commissioners to serve as the next warden of the Hall County Correctional Institute," Davis said. "I am committed to operating a safe, secure and efficient facility that through the use of work details provides a cost-effective work force multiplier for the citizens of Hall County,"
Davis received a bachelor's degree in both Political Science and History at Mercer University and a master's degree in Public Administration with a concentration in Justice Administration from Columbus State University.
Davis replaces Avery Niles, who resigned as warden late last year to become the Commissioner of the Georgia Department of Juvenile Justice.
Davis' appointment is effective Feb. 4. |

Emory Findley Award
Council of Superior Court Judges' winter conference

Hall County Superior Court Judge Kathlene F. Gosselin was named this year's recipient of the prestigious Emory Findley Award by her peers at the Council of Superior Court Judges' winter conference in Athens, Ga. on Jan. 24.
Judge Findley, who served from 1977 to 1995 as a Superior Court judge in the Atlantic Judicial Circuit, became president of the council in 1983. He transformed the Council of Superior Court Judges, taking it from largely a social organization which was lacking in direction, to the council we have today, giving all Superior Court judges of this state the opportunity to be individually involved in the operation of the business and pursuit of the aspirations of the council to improve the operation of the courts. The Emory Findley Award is annually awarded by the Council of Superior Court Judges to a Superior Court judge who has exhibited, through leadership and actions, outstanding judicial service in all areas, but particularly through service which has benefited judges statewide; thereby, enhancing the reputation of the justice system. Judge Gosselin's nominations for this award were many and included letters from the Superior Court judges of the Northeastern Judicial Circuit and the Appalachian Judicial Circuit as well as David Ralston, speaker of the Georgia House of Representatives.
Gosselin served as president of the council from 2010 to 2011. Her tenure coincided with a time of unparalleled challenge for our state as we faced the largest budget shortfall experienced in Georgia since the Great Depression. Facing serious budget cuts, Judge Gosselin was successful in leading the council forward in a progressive manner while insuring the needs of the justice system were met. In addition, Judge Gosselin has been a driving force in the creation and development of accountability courts throughout the state, including implementation of a mental health court in Hall County.
As was stated in one letter: "Throughout her tenure on the bench, Judge Gosselin has demonstrated an unprecedented level of leadership. She never declines when asked to step forward for the Superior Court judges of this state. She is an exemplar of true servant-hood and teaches all of us what it truly means to be a judge of this state." |

Employee Awards in E-911 Employee of the year/Excellence at work 2012
We are pleased to announce that Pamela Taylor has been named the 9-1-1/Central Communications Employee of the Year. Pamela has been working with 9-1-1 since March 27th, 2000 and for many employees with the department is the "go to person" when help is needed. This year Pamela has worn many hats and sometimes all at the same time. One morning in November, she was the Supervisor on Duty, had two (2) trainees' on shift, working Fire Backup Radio and she was still smiling. Her dedication to her job, this department and to the citizens of Hall County is immeasurable.
We are pleased to announce that Bill Jones (not shown), Kim Bond, Michele Parden and Monique Randolph received "Excellence at Work" awards. These employees demonstrated excellent work habits by being on time for work every day and doing whatever was needed to get the job done. Bill Jones worked diligently to ensure the newly installed CAD (Computer Aided Dispatch) System and MDT (Mobile Data Terminal) Network was configured correctly to work at their optimum capability and when problems did occur were resolved quickly. Kim and Monique on two separate occasions both volunteered to work on night shift for extended periods of time to train new personnel and to ensure adequate coverage. Michele ensured that Animal Control duties were covered when needed due to sickness and vacation and started training in the 9-1-1 Center as a Call Taker and dispatcher, so she could help out when an emergency occurred and during personnel shortages. These are the first of what we hope will be many awards to be given in the future.

Hall County recognized for health-based initiative
Hall County Government was recognized at Celebrate Healthy North Georgia, an annual wellness event that educates, communicates and celebrates the multiple aspects of wellness and how it can be incorporated into the everyday lives of the people in the community that we serve.
Hall County was honored for its health-based initiative Healthy Hall County, which is geared toward Hall County employees, their dependents and retirees. Its purpose is to create a healthier and happier work force by providing employees with the tools they need to successfully reach their overall fitness goals. The program includes free access to community health centers and free boot camps and fitness sessions led by Greg Cochran, director of personal training for OLD SKL Fitness. Healthy Hall County also includes incentives for employees who actively participate in the program.
"Hall County is honored to be recognized as a leader in the community for promoting health and wellness," said Hall County Human Resources Director Bill Moats. "We are appreciative of our county commissioners, administration and community center staff for their support."

If you use the Express Scripts website to manage your prescriptions, here are important changes you need to know: On February 1, 2013, Express Scripts, the company that helps your organization manage your prescription benefit, is upgrading its website to better serve you and improve your online experience. The details are below - you'll see what remains the same, what changes and what you need to do. What remains the same: -Your pharmacy benefit remains the same -Your ID card remains the same -The customer service phone number you call remains the same -The web address you use remains the same -The fax number or mailing address you send home delivery prescriptions to remains the same What changes: -Effective February 1, 2013, you will be introduced to an improved website. You will continue to go to www.Express-Scripts.com to access your prescription information; however, the improved website will feature some new self-service capabilities, including tools that are designed to help you better understand your benefit, shop for lower-cost medications, determine the lowest-cost channel to obtain medications and more. We can assure you that the improved website is very intuitive and easy to navigate. -[Use only if client does not have DLSO enabled] Our new site provides enhanced privacy for all adults in your household. Each member over age 18 must register separately. You can choose to grant permission to other adults in the household to view your information by enabling the "Household view" option. When you grant permission to other household members, you will enable them to view your information, place orders on your behalf and more. -What you may know as home delivery "automatic refills" will now be called "Worry-free FillsŪ" and includes a new auto-renewal function. Any prescription that was previously enrolled in and is still eligible for Auto Refills will be transferred automatically to the Worry-free Fills program. What you'll need to do: -Effective February 1, 2013, you will not be able to use the "Express Rx" mobile app. If you use the "Express Rx" mobile app today, you should download the new "Express Scripts" app from your app store to view and manage your prescriptions after February 1, 2013. -If you use the website to order specialty medications from CuraScript, Express Scripts specialty pharmacy, you will need to call the CuraScript phone number on your prescription card to place your refill order and to check order status. While we are updating the specialty functionality on our improved website, you must call CuraScript to place refill orders and to check order status using the phone number on your prescription card. This is temporary. Enhanced specialty online functionality will be launched in the first half of 2013. These changes to the website will improve convenience and ease of access to your prescriptions. If you have any questions about the above information, call the customer service number on your Express Scripts member ID card. |

Outlook 2010 Quick Steps
Outlook 2010 comes with a simple to use wizard for automating certain tasks called Quick Steps. You can create a Quick Step to perform a series of tasks that you regularly do. There are a large number of tasks that can be automated with this tool. As an example, let's say you need to send an e-mail every week to a group of people, it has the same subject and text in the body it just needs an updated attachment (like a timesheet). With Quick Steps, you can automate every part of that except for adding the attachment. In one click, you can have a new e-mail created, the list of recipients filled, the Subject line filled and even have body text filled.
1. To begin creating a Quick Step, look for this box in your Outlook window. The bottom left corner contains the "Create New" button. Click that.
2. In the dialog box that appears, you are presented with several options. At the top of the screen, you enter a name for the Quick Step. Next, select an action to perform (you can add multiple actions by clicking the "Add Action" button). I chose the "New Message" action, so I'm presented with fields like To, Subject, Flag, Importance, and Text. Simply fill in the fields with your information and hit finish.
3. Back at the main Outlook window, there is a new option in the Quick Step area. My newly created "E-mail Timesheet" Quick Step has its own button. From now on, I just need to click that button and add my timesheet as an attachment.
