Dear Friends,

Rimon will be offering several rich opportunities for celebration, learning and prayer in the coming months. Beginning March 16th we will be offering informal monthly Shabbat afternoon gatherings to spend the last hours of Shabbat together in song, learning, conversation and, of course, eating.

On April 7th, we invite you to join us for a commemorative event in honor of Yom Ha-Shoah-Holocaust Memorial Day. This program will be held at Hevreh, with their generous support. Please see the details below.

Save the date of April 27th - Sat. evening when we will celebrate the lesser known holiday of Lag Ba'Omer with a bonfire, drumming, dancing and general revelry! More details to follow.

Hope to see you at one or all of these special events.

Kol Tuv- All the best,

Rabba Kaya

It is a special mitzvah to have three ritual meals on Shabbat.
Seudah Sh'lishit literally means 'third meal'. It is sometimes pronounced shalasheudes
amongst Ashkenazic Jews. This meal takes place in the last hours of Shabbat, preceding
havdalah. Tradition teaches that these final hours have a special sweetness that comes from the nearness of the Shekhinah during that time. It is our custom to linger over this meal with special table songs that express our longing for and closeness to God. As we take leave of Shabbat, it is also time to enter into the Torah portion for the coming week through learning at the table. This program will be led by Rabba Kaya Stern-Kaufman.

Please bring a vegetarian pot-luck dish to share.

All are welcome to enjoy this sweet experience of
Shabbat afternoon followed by Havdalah.

A Holocaust Memorial Program

Please join Rabba Kaya Stern-Kaufman

and Musicians Anne Legene and Larry Wallach

An evening of learning, poetry, prayer and music in commemoration of Yom Hashoah-Holocaust Memorial Day. The holocaust period produced a large body of responsa literature, Yiddish poetry and music. This program will share many of these voices.

Rabbi Ephraim Oshry,z"l was the spiritual leader of the Kovno ghetto during the war years and was subsequently imprisoned in a concentration camp near Kovno. Throughout this period, Rabbi Oshry received many ethical questions concerning the conduct of Jewish life under those extraordinary circumstances. He wrote down the questions and his answers on small bits of paper and buried them in the ground in the concentration camp. Sometime after the war he retrieved his writings and over time published five volumes of responsa literature pertaining to this period. Some of this heartrending literature will be explored, shedding more light on the struggles of individuals during that time.

During these years, Jewish composers also produced many works of music. Musicians Anne Legene and Larry Wallach will share music from this period for piano and cello. Yiddish poetry from the period will also be shared as well as niggunim (wordless melodies) and memorial prayers. All are invited to attend.
