Alumni and Project Success Holiday Break
Over the holiday break members of our CIS Alumni Association and Project Success group gathered together for a one-day retreat at Tree of Life Church. To many members (if not all) the support they receive from our Project Success & Alumni Association team of Liberty Nicholas and Alex Villarreal is extremely important. It is an essential piece to the success of their current chosen path (college or military) and they cherish the time they have with Liberty and Alex.

A large part of the day was spent learning about self-care and doing some team building exercises (and yoga!) as well as discussing accomplishments and challenges they are all facing while in college and the military. THANK YOU Tree of Life Church, Westside Community Center, Mrs. Anne Weisman, Donna Griffin, Starbucks, Shipley's Donuts and some of our very generous board members!

January is National Mentoring Month
Did you know that young people who are in a quality mentoring relationship are more likely to do better in school and have aspirations to go to college. They're more equipped to make responsible decisions and model good behavior too. This National Mentoring Month, make the decision to be someone a young person knows they can turn to. Spending just 30 minutes or more each week - whether it's helping with homework, playing  games or just hanging out - means a young person has someone to turn to in moments big and small. Become a mentor! Contact Sonya Chapa at 830.620.4247 Ext. 12 for more details.

Protecting Americans from Tax Hikes (PATH) Act
On December 18, 2015, President Obama signed the Protecting Americans from Tax Hikes (PATH) Act of 2015 into law. The act makes permanent the IRA charitable rollover, which allows donors aged 70 1/2 and above to make tax-free donations of up to $100,000 directly from their IRAs to qualified charities. This incentive ends the sector's nearly 10-year long struggle to make these incentives a permanent part of the tax code, and will help to strengthen our charitable community's ability to give and invest in the mission of Communities In Schools and in the lives of the children served. If this type of charitable rollover is of interest to you, feel free to contact our development office at (830) 620-4247 x16.
