With the change of business manager at Local #22, came a flurry of activity.  Three grievance were filed, one from Local 22 and two from NECA.

Local 22 filed a grievance in connection with a wireman not getting asked to work overtime hours on thew weekend.  This grievance was settled with no contractor penalty.

NECA filed a grievance on a low voltage referral that had three months experience and was dispatched as a low voltage tech.  We settled this grievance and terminated the low voltage tech and had the local reclassify him as a cabler.  He was subsequently rehired under the new classification.

NECA's second grievance was filed because a low voltage referral had no education certificate properly attached to his dispatch papers.  The Union agreed to joint responsibility on the improper referral and hiring of this low voltage tech.

If you have any questions regarding these grievances please call.   Finally, we had an interim meeting regarding wage allocation for the last raise given to inside wiremen.   No resolution was agreed upon.  I'll be traveling to Washington DC to attend CIR and they will render a decision.

Sincerely,

Allan Hale, Executive Director

We have a considerable number of CW's that have been processed and experience.  that are currently in the training office.  They have had their physicals and also have their OSHA 10 cards.  If you have any interest in trying some of these candidates, please call the training office.  Many of the contractors have been sending applicants that have applied directly to them and they have been dispatched by the training office.  If you have cablers that are approaching the 2500 hours mark, and want to keep them, you are required to terminate them as a cabler, but then they can be referred back to you as a CW, after processing.  The CW classification is an excellent way to utilize entry level people to control your ratio.  It's a good way to clean up storage areas and work sites prior to the winter.

Chapter Update

We settled the Local 265 wage opener last month and ended up with a $1.00 raise broken down into two 6-month increments of $ .45 for the first six months and $ .55 for the second six months.  The membership will have their meeting on August 13, 2014 and we will have a letter to the Lincoln contractors out shortly afterward with the wage allocation.

We are looking forward to the second year of the BEST program at Benson High School.  The students will be using first year curriculum for the seniors.  Thank you to those contractors who had Benson students working for their companies.   ECO had a nice comment from one of his customers who met a Benson student.   READ ABOUT ECO...

We will be having a low voltage strategy session in early September in preparation for the negotiations for the statewide agreement.  Please get engaged in this process so that our contract can be used to improve the operation of our low voltage classification.  Bob Sidzyik has been hired by the new administration as an organizer, for low voltage techs.
