| Letter from the Dean
Over the last several weeks, I have had the opportunity to talk to current students and alumni about SSW's commitment to increase financial assistance for MSW students, and our concern that the financial aid program must do more to meet the rising costs of tuition. Our School's increase in financial aid has continued to exceed the increase in tuition, and 75 percent of our students receive some form of financial aid. However, we need to do a lot more to increase the amount of assistance available to our students as they prepare themselves for life-long social work careers.
In November, the University of Michigan and the School of Social Work will launch our next major fund-raising and development campaign. In the next print issue of Ongoing, I will provide you with the details of our plans and goals for this campaign. Students are the heart of SSW and fostering their talent and intellect is our highest calling.

Community Service Day
The James and Grace Lee Boggs School had many volunteers from U-M SSW on Community Service Day.
Social Work students spent a day to help make finishing touches on our building by putting together furniture and finishing many other projects throughout the entire building. The collaboration amongst all those involved in the process of opening this school has been amazing! We are so thankful for the hearts, hands, and creative minds that went into making this dream come true. This placed based education school has already had a community of support to lift it up, and we are very thankful for the many people who have helped!
-Ms. Christina Smith, Rainbow Room Class Teacher, Boggs School

Nancy Brennan, MSW candidate, hoped for a placement, which would provide a broad and rich experience, great supervision and an opportunity to cultivate clinical skills.
She feels as though she has gotten all of that and more at a newly offered placement at the University of Michigan Health System's Comprehensive Gender Services Program (UMHS-CGSP), a multidisciplinary program providing a variety of services for gender-variant individuals.
