2016 Bible Presentation AssemblyBibleAssembly

An HMS tradition is the presentation of a Bible to all fourth graders and new students in grades 5-8.  For this year's chapel presentation, the 4th grade class chose to act out vignettes illustrating their class theme, Sharing the Light of Jesus while singing the song Longing for Light.

Special thanks to teacher, Mrs. Anette Raiser, and Mrs. Kristen Hertzog, HMS grade 4 parent, who helped the 4th graders develop and present their theme ideas.

The 2016 HinkleFEST & Auction is one month away! Watch for next week's Special Edition NewsLink for the schedule of activities & items for sale each day.

What To Do Now? VOLUNTEER!
We ask that each family contribute 2 hours of volunteer time for the auction.

Middle school students are asked to volunteer as well!  Parents can sign up their middle school student for student volunteer slots via Sign-up Genius online or on the parent permission form that will be sent home this week.

In addition to the Friday night & Saturday activities, some work needs to be done in advance of the auction weekend. Check out the Sign-up Genius for slots that fit your family's schedule, or contact Jody Fausnight or Dawn Landes to volunteer to help with something in September and early October.

  • NEW STOVES and REFRIGERATOR! This week 2 new stoves and a new refrigerator will be installed in the kitchen! We are grateful for equipment that will work properly for hot lunch teams, Family & Consumer Science students, and anyone using the school kitchen!
  • THANK YOU! to our hot lunch leaders.
  • HOT LUNCHES: Parent-Teacher Fellowship is working on confirming the hot lunch team leaders for the year. After those leaders are confirmed, hot lunch teams will be finalized and order forms will be distributed to students.
  • Still needed:
  • A team leader for the chicken nugget meal (additional volunteers assist with cooking & serving, each meal is once per trimester),
  • Hot Lunch Coordinator who plans the trimester schedule & coordinates with team leaders (food service experience not required).
Contact Nicole Hurst, PTF Volunteer Coordinator (717-405-7766 or cnhurst06@yahoo.com), if you would like to contribute your hands to this service to families & fundraiser for PTF.
Music Instrument Lessons PTF

Parents have been asking about options for music lessons during the school day.  Since Mrs. Cunalata, our music teacher, is part-time and does not currently have time to offer lessons herself, she has made agreements with a few other teachers who know our school and can come in one day a week to offer lessons.  The cost of half-hour lessons depends on the teacher and instrument.

Instruments offered this year include piano, guitar, trumpet, trombone, violin, viola and cello.  Contact Mrs. Cunalata at jcunalata@hmsk8.org if interested.  She will be sending home sign-up sheets with students who express interest and she has arranged for lessons to begin the week of September 19.

At Back-to-School Night we introduced a new concept for a possible high school program we are calling The Venture Program. Some of you filled out paper surveys to share your feedback or responded to last week's digital survey.

If you haven't responded, here's another chance!

Bus Stops & Communication
Bus drivers are working hard to make the bus pick-up and drop-off times consistent so you can plan appropriately for you and your children. Final Bus Stop lists will come out this week.

Please remember to send a bus note to the office if your child is not going to ride their bus. If possible, please submit a bus note by 1 pm so that the office staff can alert the appropriate teachers and staff. You may send a note in backpack mail, email the office at  office@hmsk8.org or call the main office number (717-354-7100). Contact the bus driver the night before for morning changes.
