Construction to Begin on El Camino Real Sidewalk Repair Project

Houston, TX - On Monday, November 23 the City of Houston's Public Works and Engineering Department is scheduled to begin construction on a sidewalk repair project along El Camino Real near Clear Lake Intermediate School. During construction, crews will remove and replace damaged sidewalk sections on the northbound side of the street from El Dorado Boulevard to Woodhorn Drive. Work on the project will occur from 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. and is currently expected to be completed by Friday, December 11, weather permitting. Construction will pause for Thanksgiving break on Wednesday, November 25 and resume on Monday, November 30.

Residents should expect the lane of traffic adjacent to the sidewalk on the northbound side of El Camino Real to be closed intermittently during the duration of the project. Signage and flagmen will be in place during these single lane closures to direct motorists. Council Member Martin's office has also notified the Houston Police Department's Clear Lake Substation and requested that officers monitor the area and assist with traffic control as needed. The Clear Creek Independent School District's Transportation and Safe and Secure Schools Departments will additionally monitor the project area to maintain safe routes of entrance to and exit from Clear Lake Intermediate during work.

The work being done on the sidewalk on El Camino Real was scheduled in response to Council Member Martin's request to use his Council District Service Budget on the repairs. Over the past year, the District E office received numerous complaints about the condition of the sidewalk and the hazard it presents to students walking to and from Clear Lake Intermediate School. Council Member Martin expects the replacement of the sidewalk's damaged sections to address this concern by improving pedestrian safety in the area.
