Important Information for Parents of IMS Students IMS PTSA General Meeting, Thursday, Feb. 25th
Please come to the IMS PTSA General Meeting this Thursday, February 25th at 1:20 pm in the new, temporary library. Items to be discussed:
1) Fred Rundle, Assistant Superintendent for learning services, will be speaking on the myths and realities about the SBAC (Smarter Balanced assessments) test in May. If you are wondering weather to have your child tested or "opt out", you need to hear this talk. 2) Election of Nomination committee for the 2016/2017 PTSA Board 3) Adoption of Standing Rules revisions 4) Discussion of our brick campaign to support our beautiful new school that will
be opening this Fall.
5) Information about how you can participate in the new MIYFS Healthy Youth initiative. 6) Information about Dr. Pedro Noguera and his upcoming seminar. We need your voice and participation! IMS Students were recognized at the
 2016 Reflections Awards "Let Your Imagination Fly" Showcase for outstanding artistic achievement in the following categories: Film, Literature, Music, Photography, and Visual Arts, The first place winners' artwork is currently competing at the state level. MI Fine Arts Showcase Tuesday, April 5th & Wed., April 6th, 5:30-9:30PM
Sponsored by the Mercer Island Fine Arts Advisory Council and MISD, the Fine Arts Showcase is an annual fundraiser featuring performances by MISD performing arts students as well as artwork displayed by all elementary students and those participating in visual art classes at IMS and MIHS. For 2 nights, Mercer Island High School is transformed into a beautiful art gallery with demonstrations and performances.
Tuesday night is a spotlight on visual arts, with art demonstrations, activities and small ensemble performances, and Wednesday night features concerts by band, orchestra, choir and drama students as well as a special performance by the all 3rd grade choir.
Event is open to the public and tickets start at $10 in advance, good for both nights. Proceeds benefit fine arts education programs throughout MISD.

Disney and Dessert is the popular Fundraiser that supports the Orchestra Program GRADES 5-12 and THIS YEAR the performance DISNEYLAND TRIP for HIGH SCHOOL ORCHESTRA STUDENTS. It's a Disney Concert followed by a dessert buffet fit for the Magic Kingdom. Wear your Costume!
$15 Donation in Advance * $20 at the Door
Students $5 with ASB card; 5th grade and under free with paying adult

Parks and Recreation Camp Counselor in Training (CIT)
Learn all aspects of working with children in a Day Camp setting, leadership, communication, planning, safety and fun! Experienced Day Camp Directors, guest speakers and workshops will show you the ropes on how you can become a camp counselor! Each CIT will become first aid and CPR certified. After your training is complete get hands on experience by shadowing a camp counselor and working with the kids during a week of camp this summer.

Cheerleading Classes Mercer Island Community & Event Center, Next Session Starts Feb. 23rd
Come join us for cheerleading class at the Mercer Island Community and Event Center! This beginning-to-intermediate level class is held on Tuesday evenings from 5:30-7pm. It is offered through the Mercer Island Parks Department in conjunction with Eastside Dream Elite cheerleading. Participants will learn basic cheer skills, motions, jumps, dance, and some basic tumbling as well. No experience necessary! Next session begins Tuesday, February 23rd. TechSmart Kids After School Coding Classes - Starting January 11, 2016

TechSmartKids, a leading provider of computer science education for K-12 is offering afterschool computer coding classes at Islander Middle School this winter. Classes begin Monday, January 11th and meet once a week for 1.5 hours.

Girls & Boys Volleyballogy and Boys Volleyball Mercer Island Community and Event Center
A. Beginners volleyball clinics (ages 8-12, both boys and girls) *Training focused on beginner fundamentals and mechanics.
