Your School Board is holding a special board meeting at Islander Middle School on November 5 to meet with teachers and other staff and visit classrooms beginning at 7:45 that morning and lasting until 11:30. Our board members are also interested in meeting parents that morning, too. Parents who wish to meet the board and share information and exchange ideas with them may do so beginning at 9:45 until 10:30. The parent meeting will be held in what is referred to as the "new library space" which is the former location of the student center.

 Islander Middle School Chess Club
TWO Sessions on Thursdays 3:00-4:00pm
IMS Chess Club is open to all levels from learning players to advanced competitors.
Coach Chouchan (pronounced Shoushan) Airapetian is the IMS Chess Coach. She is an accomplished coach and competitor in the US Chess Championships. To read more about Coach Chouchan and how to enroll your student, click here.

Free Art Mosaic Workshops
Open to All Interested IMS students - Apply by 10/30/2015
Islander Middle School students are invited to participate in mosaic workshops led by artists Sandy Glass and Jose Orantes. The mosaics will be installed as a 25 foot by 14 inch border in the Luther Burbank Park Playground. Students interested in this permanent art installation project should be able to commit to at least 75% of the workshops and enjoy creative detail-oriented projects. No art skills are necessary. - Looking for a maximum of 25 students with good representation from grades 6-8th
- City of Mercer Island sponsored and approved
- Workshops will be Thursdays from 3:00-4:00pm at IMS starting January 7, 2016 to March 3, 2015 (no session on February 18 for mid-winter break)
