Tryout Informational Meeting, May 7th

It's occurring on Thursday, May 7 from 6:30pm-7:30pm in the MIHS Library Presentation Room. Anyone who is interested in trying out for the Mercer Island High School Drill Team for the 2015-2016 season is welcome to attend along with their parents/guardians.

Kiss-the-Pig Event

IMS CARNIVAL CHAIRS NEEDED!
Year-End Carnival - Wednesday, June 17th

Your help is needed to prepare for the highly-anticipated, year-end Carnival at IMS.  We have notes from previous years and all the vendors are already lined up!  We greatly need a couple of chairs to help organize the details.  The kids really look forward to this fun celebration of the end of the school year.  Please email president@imsptsa.org if you are interested in helping out.  This year's Carnival will be held on Wednesday June 17th.

Girl Scout In-School Drive
New Beginnings

7th grade Girl Scout troop 43611 is running an in-school drive for: non-perishable food, Keurig K Cups, diapers and pull-ups. This drive is for New Beginnings a domestic violence refuge. Drop-off boxes will be located in the IMS offices through May.

IMS Island Books Event
Save the Date - Friday, May 15th

Island books

The IMS Island Books' event is coming up, Friday, May 15.  Shop anytime throughout the day, and when you identify yourself with IMS, we receive 20% of the sales!   The proceeds will benefit IMS PTSA programs and services that help enrich our students' middle school experience.

 

Please join us for coffee and pastries from 9:30am-11:30am, or meet friends for a glass of wine and hors d'oeuvres from 6pm-8pm.   Catch up with friends, share book recommendations and leisurely browse the shelves.

 

Start making your list now!  Pick up books for the family's summer reading, or get great gifts for Graduations, Father's Day, Favorite Teachers and Birthdays! At the same time, you will be helping the students at Islander Middle School. We hope to see you there on May 15!

School Board Vacancy Appointment
Information
Mercer Island School Board Position 5 will become vacant on May 14, 2015, as a result of a resignation due to a planned change in residency of Board President Janet Frohnmayer. A new board member will be appointed to fill the vacancy left by her until the Nov. 3, 2015 general election. If the appointed member desires to remain on the board, they must run for election for a full four-year term in the fall.

Youth Theatre Northwest

Youth Theatre Northwest is producing an exquisite production of a timeless classic, The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe which opens April 24 and performs through May 10.

Safety, Fitness and Family Fun - The Mary Wayte Pool has it all!  From Family Swim and Lap Swim 7 days a week to their OCA learn-to-swim program to birthday parties, there isn't anything you can't do in the pool that's fun, safe or healthy.

Welcome Back to Island Hoop Camp

We are thrilled to have Coach Gavin Cree and his staff for six amazing camps for players entering grades 1-8 in Fall 2015. This year we are excited to offer an all-day camp!

Counselor In Training Program (CIT)
 

 

Learn to be a camp counselor!  Gain leadership, communication skills, planning, safety and FUN! Learn from experienced Day Camp Directors and guest speakers. Each "CIT" will become first aid and CPR certified. After the formal training is complete get hands on experience by shadowing a camp counselor during a week of summer camp (one week required).

TechSmart Kids 
Summer Camps

This summer TechSmartKids is offering the following half-day and full day technology camps for middle school students in Mercer Island and Bellevue for student's ages 7-16 years:. 

Mobile Game Development Camp  - Students learn to design and code mobile game Apps using Unity, a professional game development engine and the C# programming language 

Making Camp  - Students learn to build circuits and work with computer hardware, write code, CAD design and print with 3D printer.

Mercer Island's Girls Lacrosse line
Development & Elite Summer Camps

Add girls lacrosse to your summer bucket list! Camps are run by MIHS Girls Varsity Coach, Liz Shields, and provide a mix of skills, drills, strategy, scrimmaging and fun! Developmental Camps (Grades 2-8) are June 22-26 and July 13 - 17, from 9 a.m. - 2 p.m. Elite Camp (Grades 7-12) is June 22-269 - 11 a.m. All camps are held at MIHS JV Field. Players from all skill levels, schools and clubs are welcome.

New STEM CLASS with DIGIVATIONS
Innovation and World Building Workshops - May 20

Experience a Taste of Camp Demigod!  Imagine yourself as one of your favorite non-fictional or fictional characters while learning about archeology, ancient and futuristic civilizations, commercial space, and design thinking.  Learn how artists, writers, scientists, engineers and humanists influence each other to solve 21st Century challenges.  Create worlds through role playing, storyboarding, and producing new works using the medium of your choice: art, theatrical improvisation, and video/games (on student device). 

About the Instructors:  Together, Dr. Steven Lee Berman and Anne Deane Berman, PhD combine over 50 years of engineering, science, technology, artistic, teaching and research experience in supporting the DIGIVATIONS CAMP DEMIGOD INSTITUTE 501(c)(3) non-profit.  They strive to create experiential and interactive learning environments that blend STEM+ARTS+MOVEMENT.
