Helping Education Here and Globally
Tired of spending hours at various stores shopping for school supplies, without even knowing what your student will really need for the year? HelpEduc8 is a local, charitable business that sells pre-made packages of school supplies to families of Mercer Island middle school students. Each package is custom-made in consultation with IMS teachers to contain all the supplies a 6th, 7th, or 8th grader will need at Islander Middle School for the entire year, at a lower price than one would pay buying all supplies separately at local stores. HelpEduc8 saves you time and money, and ensures that your student will have all of the necessary supplies to have a successful school year. All net profits are donated to Save the Children, a charity dedicated to providing education and hope to millions of children worldwide affected by conflict. Contact us at helpeduc8.llc@gmail.com to be added to our email list and notified when packages are available to order for the 2014-2015 school year.
We will also be at the upcoming 7th/8th Grade Registration Night on March 9th. Please come visit our table to learn more about our business, and sign up for our mailing list!

Mercer Island FC Select and Premier Soccer Information Night Wednesday Evening, March 4th, 7:15 - 8:30PM, MI Community Center

Mercer Island FC (originally known as Mercer Island Youth Soccer Club) was established in 1964. While the club name changed to Mercer Island FC (MIFC) in recent years, our focus hasn't. We have had the same mission for 50 years - to develop and promote physical and mental fitness, sportsmanship, skill development, citizenship and teamwork for the boys and girls of our community under nineteen years of age through participation in the game of soccer.
Our annual informational parent meeting on playing Select and Premier Soccer on Mercer Island is scheduled for Wednesday evening, March 4th. MIFC Vice President of Select Soccer, Ketu Shah, will present information on the upcoming tryouts for MIFC teams. In addition to our regular compliment of Boys and Girls teams from U11 to U18, we will be adding a new Select U10 level for Boys and Girls this year. Find out if this would be a good fit for your child(ren) and get all of your questions on playing, coaching, tryouts, player commitment and cost answered.
In addition to MIFC board members, on hand will be representatives from Eastside FC, MIFC's partner for Premier soccer on the eastside. They can help with questions about Premier soccer, their tryout schedule, player commitment and costs. Eastside FC is the only Premier club recognized by Washington Youth Soccer in our Association.
The meeting details:
Date: Wednesday, March 4th
Time: 7:15 pm - 8:30 pm
Location: MI Community Center
In addition to information on MIFC's Select Soccer offerings, we will also be honoring our very own Select GU14 Maroon team and coaches who won the recent 2015 Washington Youth Soccer State Championship!
We look forward to seeing you there!
Sincerely,
Toby Suhm - President
Ketu Shah - VP of Select Soccer
Stephanie Wyss - Select Soccer Registrar

"The Mask You Live In" Thursday, March 5 at MIHS PAC
MI Parent Edge Presents the Film, The Mask You Live In 7 p.m., Thursday, March 5 at MIHS PAC How can we raise a healthier generation of boys and young men?
From the Directors of "Miss Representation," comes a film exploring masculinity in America. The Mask You Live In follows boys and young men as they struggle to be true to themselves. Pressured by their peers, adults, and the media, boys learn to disconnect from emotions, devalue friendships, objectify women, and resolve conflict through violence. Gender stereotypes interconnect with race, class, and circumstance to create a maze of identity issues boys must face in order to become "real" men. See film trailer here.
Please join Parent Edge as we present this anticipated film, followed by a discussion.
This event is for parents of kids of all ages; students in grades 8-12 are encouraged to attend.
FREE for MI students and staff; 5 dollars per family for MI PTA members.
MI Parent Edge is jointly sponsored by the PTAs of Lakeridge, Island Park, West Mercer, Islander Middle, MIHS and St. Monica schools. Please visit www.miparentedge.org to view the parent education 2014-2015 events calendar. Back to Top
