GUNBOAT 5501 'VANQUISH' UNDER SAIL

We welcome you to a new year! 2014 promises to be GUNBOAT's finest yet. The yards in North Carolina and Xiamen are bustling with GUNBOAT 55 & 60s rolling out regularly. As we approach our 15th year of production, the level of performance, finish, and detail continues to set new standards. You may ask what sets GUNBOAT apart? As you read through this edition of GUNBOAT NEWS, it will be clear that GUNBOAT is a community of extraordinary people demonstrating a lifelong passion for sailing. The result of this passion is a collection of the world's finest sailing yachts.

ROLL OUT/ROLL IN GUNBOAT 55 'VANQUISH' SOFT LAUNCH.

GUNBOAT 55-01 has rolled out of the shed, and rolled into the water. First up is structural load testing, system tests, and verification of all engineering. The Hall Spar is stepped. The Quantum Sails are loaded. The Marlow Ropes are led. An elaborate laser and photo array sensor system is installed to measure structural deflections. We are very grateful for our superhero owners of VANQUISH for their support and patience during this very important launch process. www.gunboat.com

ARCTIC VORTEXES & VANQUISH LOAD TESTING.

A brief weather window yesterday allowed the GUNBOAT factory test team to do its preliminary load testing of GUNBOAT 5501 'VANQUISH'. A gentle sub-freezing breeze allowed the gradual loading of the platform while under careful observation by the technical team. We are happy to report that the engineered structures are performing within their expected tolerances. During the brief upwind sail, VANQUISH accelerated to 9.4 knots of boatspeed in 12 knots of true wind. She is hinting at what is to come. The uneventful first load testing session ended in the freezing winter darkness. GUNBOAT Captain Joe Logan tended her dock lines for the coming gale until well after dinner time.

LOGAN'S RUN!

Captain Joe Logan joined GUNBOAT soon after the New Year. Joe was a top collegiate sailor at Old Dominion University, and for over twelve years was an award winning ASA Offshore Yacht Instructor and Captain. Among his 50,000 plus miles offshore, was a recent 9000 mile catamaran delivery to Australia! Joe is GUNBOAT's new commissioning and training Captain for the GUNBOAT 55 series being produced in North Carolina.

TEN YEARS! TIME FLIES. HULLS FLY. GUNBOAT CLASS RACING.

The GUNBOAT CLASS is marking its tenth year of regattas at the 2014 Heineken St Maarten Regatta in March. Stalwarts expected include ELVIS, TRIBE, TIGER LILY, COCO DE MER, and SLIM. These seasoned GUNBOATs should enjoy their closest racing to date. CSA Measurers Stuart Knaggs and Alfred Koonen have developed a new multihull rating to measure all performance aspects. The social schedule is already filling up. The fleet will be docked together at Port de Plaisance to enable the usual GUNBOAT dock parties after racing. Channeling ELVIS... try to take it easy on the fleet this year. HAVE A GREAT TIME!!!

ZEN ROCKS THE ARC! 1ST TO FINISH MULTIHULL!

The golden GUNBOAT 62 'ZENYATTA' was first to cross the start line and then sailed away from the multihull fleet in the Atlantic Rally for Cruisers. ZENYATTA was the first multihull to finish, and sailed the entire rally, despite engine allowances being used by much of the fleet.

OLYMPIC CAT COACH. GUNBOAT PROJECT GURU.

Former US Olympic Sailing Team Tornado Coach, Richard Feeny, is heading up the refit of extreme snowboarder Travis Rice's GUNBOAT 48 'FALCOR' at the North Carolina GUNBOAT yard.
