The New York Yacht Club Sailing Office has extended an invitation for the GUNBOAT CLASS to race in the 2015 TRANS-ATLANTIC RACE from Newport to the Lizard Light in England. THE GUNBOAT 66 PHAEDO won the 2011 Trans-Atlantic Race, beating the MALTESE FALCON, the world's largest sailboat. The GUNBOAT CLASS is working on a start at Cowes Week following the big race. US SENATOR HAGAN VISITS THE WANCHESE YARD.
US Senator Kay Hagan paid GUNBOAT a visit recently to highlight the America Works Act, her legislation put forth in the US Congress that will enable Community Colleges to develop skilled labor and provide on the job training. Senator Hagan highlighted GUNBOAT as a model business utilizing the College of the Ablemare to retrain the local labor force and put people back to work. Check out the Outer Banks Voice article.
