Each Gunboat racing at the St Maarten Heinekin Regatta was steered by its owner! While there is no rule requirement for owner drivers, the owners were clearly enjoying sailing their GUNBOATs in the regatta. Particularly impressive in its first racing appearance was TIGER LILY, who pushed ELVIS the entire regatta. All of the GUNBOATs had mixed crews of owner drivers, friends, family and some industry types. We cannot recall another regatta with so many really terrific people gathered in one class! The awesome GUNBOAT first mates Kath, Tracy, Crystal, Anna and Ana organized a really enjoyable dock party on opening night. ELVIS capped the evening with an onboard dance rave and feast. On the water, TRIBE, COCO DE MER and PANTHERA all showed moments of brilliance. Crews reveled in the final race with fresh trade winds, big seas, and sun. The goal of the GUNBOAT class racing is to simply enjoy the wonderful people in the GUNBOAT family, and to push these amazing boats in a racing setting so everyone learns their boats. Congrats to ELVIS on nice sailing in a close fleet!
