May 2016

Dear Families & Friends,

Welcome to Happenings at Light of Hearts Villa (LOHV).

WHAT'S NEW

Wellness Department Renovation
The Wellness Department has moved! For the next 4 to 6 weeks, the  main office will be located on the ground floor, in the Computer Lab. All Wellness Department offices will return to the first floor in July, after renovations are complete.

AROUND THE VILLA

Creativity Blooms at Paint Night Fundraiser
LOHV's first-ever Paint Night Fundraiser on May 5th was a spectacular success! Thirty-six participants enjoyed a stress-free evening of fun, laughter, and creativity. Ida Stanley, LOHV's Admissions and Marketing Director and art instructor for the evening, encouraged and inspired participants to express their artistic creativity. Proceeds from the evening were donated to the Sr. Helen Scasny, SC Benevolent Fund.

Birthday Bash
Best wishes and Happy Birthday to all of our residents born in the month of May. Our residents enjoyed cake, ice cream, and musical entertainment.

Cleveland 2016 RNC Host Committee Presentation
Edward Kraus, a member of the Cleveland2016 Host Committee Speakers Bureau, visited Light of Hearts on May 10th. Residents and staff members attended Mr. Kraus' informative presentation, which detailed the many exciting plans and preparations for the upcoming Republican National Convention in Cleveland this summer.

Target Volunteers Visit LOHV
Our deepest gratitude goes out to the Target volunteers who visited the Villa on Thursday, May 12th. The group did an amazing job sprucing up the Villa, inside and out! After treating each floor to a good spring cleaning, they took advantage of the warm May weather and powered through some yard work-weeding flowerbeds, laying down topsoil, and planting a lovely tea rosebush, donated by our very own Maria Isvanca.  Thank you Maria and the wonderful Target Volunteers.

Join Hands Day 2016
Not even a chilly, drizzly day could dampen the joy and fun that was had on Saturday, May 21 as we celebrated Join Hands Day. We are grateful to Cynthia Maleski, National President, and the faithful volunteers from the First Catholic Slovak Ladies Association who arrived to beautify the Villa grounds, planting colorful geraniums, begonias, lobelia, and Shasta daisies. Also in attendance were members of Girl Scout Troops #70424 and #70131 (guided by troop leaders Kathy Novak and Sandra Orland), who spent the morning creating a butterfly- and hummingbird-friendly area in our Lumen Lane garden.
Thank you ALL for loving hands and hearts and for making Join Hands Day 2016 such a beautiful blessing for the Villa and residents.

Just a Reminder. . .
There is still time to make your gift to support the LOHV Spring Appeal. Your tax-deductible gift will help support resident programming, services, and other important needs of the Villa, as well as assisting those residents who have outlived their resources. Our residents and staff are grateful for our donors. Thank you to those who have already made a gift!

Remember and Celebrate Our Service Members
Memorial Day is observed on the last Monday of May. It was formerly known as Decoration Day and commemorates all men and women who have died in military service for the United States. The wearing of poppies is traditionally done on Memorial Day.
May you all celebrate this Memorial Day with a prayer for peace and thankfulness for those who serve and have served in the military forces.

Please reply or call me at 440.232.1991 if you have anything you would like to discuss or stop by my office the next time you're here. You can also see more pictures and updates on our Facebook page as well as our website Light of Hearts Villa.
