TIG's McGuire: "Helping Underserved Businesses Is My Passion!"

Ying McGuire decided to leave her family and textile business behind in China to pursue a life of freedom in the United States in the '90s. With nothing more than $1,000 and a bachelor's degree from Nankai University, McGuire packed her "life into one bag" and immigrated to the U.S. First stop: Phoenix, AZ, where she started a family and earned a master's in business administration of international management at Thunderbird School of Global Management. Nearly 15 years later, McGuire is vice president of international operations and business development at the San Diego-based Technology Integration Group (TIG)...

Dr. Greenfield: Making Alcorn State University a Model HBCU

Raised in a homogenous neighborhood of Rochester, N.Y., Derek Greenfield, Ed.D., seemed the most unlikely to become a change agent champion. That is, until he experienced a pivotal "diversity moment" during his freshman year at Northwestern University while attending an on-campus event. During a performance of a classroom scene with a group of racially mixed students, a racial slur was made. Although Dr. Greenfield-now Director of Educational Equity and Inclusion and Assistant Professor of Sociology at Alcorn State University-didn't immediately pick up on the offensive comment, his fellow African-American students did...
