The Arc of Nebraska's Senatorial DiARC Senatorial Dinnernner is February 4th
Each year, the Arc of Nebraska holds a Senatorial Dinner for its members (and even  non-members) to meet their state legislator, enjoy a fun, social evening, legislative briefing, and dinner.  The event is held in Lincoln at the Cornhusker Hotel. This event provides an evening to network with other people from all across the state concerned about people with disabilities and their families.  Historically, when there has been changes in systems or policies it has been due to the efforts of individuals meeting with their elected officials.  The Arc makes it easy for individuals to do this by providing the location, date and time.  Learn more about this event by clicking on the registration link.
A Story of Inclusion and Advocacy
Eric's Story
Eric's Story
After a two and a half year batttle with the Michigan Altheltic Association, Eric Dompierre's family sucessfully obtained a waiver for Eric to play althetics his senior year in high school. Eric fully participates in many school activities such as basketball and football and has always been involved in athletics since his grade school years.  Yet, turning 19 during his senior year could have meant the end of his high school athletics.  However, his family did not allow that to happen and did not think that the rules were fair because Eric had been held back in elementary school due to a disability. Eric also happens to have Down Syndrome.  Eric got to play and his team won their state football championship and also a $25,000 award and trip to New York from Sports Illustrated.  Learn more about this inspirational story here and by watching the video above.
 Medicaid in NebraskaNE Medicaid
Historically individuals with disabilities and chronic healthcare conditions have not had access to private health insurance and have had to rely on Medicaid as their lifeline to the community.   The federal government, through the Affordable Care Act, is promoting an expansion of Medicaid in Nebraska in order to cover more individuals without health insurance.  Dr. Jim Stimpson, UNMC Director of the Center for Health Policy, recently authored a policy brief on Medicaid, detailing the impact that this expansion would have on our state.  Most likely, Medicaid expansion will be decided in this legislative session. For an overview of Medicaid see the powerpoint given by our state Medicaid Director, by clicking here.    *Click on the "Access Nebraska" logo for more information on eligibility and our state Medicaid Programs.
