Google Apps Tip No. 2 - Missing Approved
E-mail
Have you ever lost an email message that you know you approved for delivery when viewing your daily Quarantine Summary? If so, then this tip is for you. After all, once you have approved an email for delivery, you expect to find it in your inbox, right?
We have found that sometimes an approved email is diverted to the Spam folder in your Google Mail. To the find the missing mail, we suggest following these simple steps:
- Login to your Google Apps email with your brazosnet.com email address & password.
- Scroll down past your folders on the left hand side (labeled)....Starred, Important, Sent Mail, Drafts etc. until you see the drop down arrow at the very bottom. Click on the drop down arrow to find the More option.
- Click on the Spam folder. Your recently approved email message should be located here.
Once you have read the email and would like to move it to your inbox, simply Select it by clicking in the box on the left. Now click on Not Spam in the menu bar at the top. Open your Inbox folder and click on the Refresh icon. Your email should appear in the Inbox in the date order it was originally received. For example, if it arrived in your Spam folder on August 6, you will find it listed with other emails received on that date in your inbox.
If you've learned a new tip and would like to share it, do so here. We will compile all the tips submitted and post them to the Brazos Blog Site. All submissions will be entered for a chance to win a $25 gift card. |

Wi-Fi Use in Homes
Expected to Double by 2016
Wi-Fi is the nickname for Wireless Fidelity - a high speed Internet connection without the use of wires. Wi-Fi technology is growing rapidly as it allows for quality Internet connectivity anywhere within the broadcast range of your home or office. One wireless router in your home can provide connectivity for several devices at once. Dad can be working in the family office on the desktop computer, while Mom is watching her favorite TV program on a tablet, and the college student is surfing the web on his smart phone. One of the best things about Wi-Fi is the mobility - all can be moving with their devices throughout the home, and in most cases outside on the patio.
Wi-Fi enabled areas are often called "Hotspots", and can be opened to the public or password encrypted. These "Hotspots" found in local restaurants, hotels, coffee shops, and more, allow their customers and guest the ability to access their networks with complete mobility.
Wi-Fi uses radio waves to transmit information to and from the wireless router to the user's device. The speed in which data is transferred to other devices depends on multiple factors: the capability of the W-Fi router, the end-device software speed, hardware, and the amount of traffic using the Wi-Fi connection. For example, our wireless family example above; typical email use, social media, surfing or cloud internet use, shares bandwidth nicely. However if one family member was streaming HD video for long periods of time, or playing games with heavy graphics, they would be using more of the available wireless connection, which could result in a sluggish connection for the other users.
Wi-Fi use continues to grow, and according to many predictions, will be doubled in homes by 2016. According to the Cisco Visual Networking Index: Forecast and Methodology, 2011-2016 - "Traffic from wireless devices will exceed traffic from wired devices by 2014. In 2016, wired devices will account for 30 percent of IP traffic, while Wi-Fi and mobile devices will account for 61 percent of IP traffic. In 2011, wired devices accounted for the majority of IP traffic at 55 percent."
The average monthly viewing of videos has grown from 1 hour and 50 minutes to 4 hours and 31 minutes in 2011. Wi-Fi isn't just for video and gaming, many businesses are now using Wi-Fi apps that reduce labor time and cost by up to 50%. It is also vital for video monitoring systems like nanny cams, motion systems, and video cameras. Several assisted and residential living facilities are using systems with wireless video and sensory monitors that electronically map their patient's movement, and alert them to changes in patient activity. Many baby boomers who live apart from their aging parents are installing wireless video monitoring systems that help ensure the wellbeing of their loved ones.
If you would like to know more about installing a wireless device in your home or office call the experts at Brazos Internet for friendly local advice and support.

Addicted to Angry Birds? It could keep your brain healthy. If you are a secret Angry Birds gamer, a new study from the Archives of Neurology may have you recommending the game to your friends. It seems that regular playing of brain stimulating games can improve memory and even delay, or prevent, the onset of Alzheimer's and other brain diseases. Even Words with Friends via your mobile phone or Facebook was mentioned as brain help. Scientists are finding that many games requiring focus (like Angry Birds) give the brain a healthy workout. It seems this activity slows the growth of amyloid, the brain protein thought to cause memory loss disease. One hundred year old UK resident Kathleen Connell is the perfect example of a gamer who spends a couple hours each day playing brain games on her Nintendo DS. She says "If there's any secret to a long life it's to think positive and keep your mind active." Some of her favorite games are Brain Trainer, Scrabble, Family Fortunes, and Art Academy. Oh, by the way, Brain Trainer calculates Connell's mental age at 64. (Source: mashable.com) http://www.brainmetrix.com |
