Recent government communication has indicated a strong deregulatory agenda and the desire to harmomise Australian Design Rules (ADRs) to international standards. The government aims to eliminate or diminish Australia-specific design rules in an effort to reduce compliance costs and red tape.
This move poses a grave risk to the manufacturing environment under which the industry currently operates by opening the door for Australia to become a dumping ground for new and used RVs. A series of articles that appeared in today's media demonstrates the potential impact on the manufacturing industry.
Industry submission
Caravan Industry Association of Australia is extremely concerned about the potential outcome of this review. In the past two days Caravan Industry Association of Australia has already met with senior cabinet ministers and personnel about this matter including the Federal Treasurer, Hon Joe Hockey MP, Hon Stephen Parry, President of the Senate, Senator Jacquie Lambie, and the Hon Ian Macfarlane MP, Federal Minister of Industry.
$50K will be invested in consultative services, industry submissions and government lobbying, and we will work closely with state associations to ensure the interests of the industry are fully represented.
