Caravan Industry Association of Australia is aware of the potential impact on some sectors of the industry in achieving compliance to AS/NZS5601.2-2013 Gas Installations - LP Gas installations in caravans and boats for non-propulsive purposes with specific regard to requirements for gas appliances fluing into annexes attached to recreational vehicles.
We are working closely with state associations and stakeholders to resolve industry concerns and confusion, however this will take both time and effort.
Further explanation from regulators
On 22 July 2014, a small industry delegation met with the Chair of the Gas Technical Regulators Committee (GTRC) on the matter. The Chair agreed to provide written guidance to the industry on practical measures for achieving compliance with the code.
Below is GTRC's response which provides further explanation and background behind the requirements.

To Recreational Vehicle, Caravan and Related Industry Members
from the Gas Technical Regulators Committee (GTRC)
Following the publication of AS/NZS5601.2-2013 Gas installations - LP Gas installations in caravans and boats for non-propulsive purposes there have been a number of queries seeking clarification in relation to the requirements of gas appliances fluing into annexes attached to caravans and recreational vehicles.
As a consequence of these queries the Chair of the Gas Technical Regulators Committee, Stephen Matheson, on behalf of the gas regulatory authorities, has written an open letter to the industry providing further explanation and background behind the requirements.
A copy of this letter is attached.
Further information is also available on the Department of Natural Resources and Mines website.
If you have any specific queries in relation to these requirements or their implementation you may contact your local gas technical regulator. Contact details for each jurisdiction are available here.

Gas emission testing
In an effort to quantify the industry position, Caravan Industry Association of Australia has commissioned a series of tests to determine gas emissions in a simulated environment which will form the basis of future industry submissions to the GTRC.
Information sessions
Information sessions on this issue were presented by regulators at the recent CCIA NSW and CIA WA state conferences. We will continue to work closely with gas regulators to keep RVMAP accredited manufacturers informed of any new developments.
