Next week will be monumentally significant for Australia's caravan and camping industry, as we establish for the first time a single body representing every aspect of our industry. In years to come we will look back on this time as one of the most exciting our industry and many members have seen.
The Caravan Industry Association of Australia will have a strong, single voice to speak on behalf of our industry. Whether we are in manufacturing and distribution, sales and service, or running the holiday parks, the new association will represent us all.

Business as usual
It's been a busy time for everyone in RVM Australia and CRVA to bring our two organisations smoothly together.
In this past week technical advisors have been conducting RVMAP audits in Queensland and New South Wales. During Avida RV's inspection in Sydney, Australian Caravan+RV magazine came along to learn about the RVMAP inspection process and the importance of buying a product that carries the RVMAP accredited badge.
As you can see, it's business as usual. RVMAP participants can be assured that they will continue to receive the same services that they currently enjoy including:
- RVMAP and its Code of Practice
- Technical support and communication
- Compliance and accreditation badge merchandise
- Access to Australian Standards subscription service
- Government advocacy
- RV production statistics
- Marketplace promotion for their accredited product
These services will be delivered by the Caravan Industry Association of Australia but, as a larger operation, the new association will have a greater capacity to offer improved benefits and services with a whole-of-industry approach to advocacy and combating non-compliance within the industry.

RV Manufacturers' Advisory Subcommittee
One of the key priorities of the Caravan Industry Association of Australia's transitional board was to establish an RV Manufacturers' Advisory Subcommittee. This subcommittee will provide RV manufacturers with direct access to the Caravan Industry Association of Australia's board and play a crucial role in ensuring that the voices of RV manufacturers are heard on matters affecting the sector.
RV Manufacturers' Advisory Subcommittee members are:
- Terry Steel (Chairman) - Jurgens Australia
- Roger Fagan - CUB Campers
- Paul Golding - Nova Caravans
- Cameron Harrison - Suncamper
- Nick Hunter - Sunliner Recreational Vehicles
- Brendan Murphy - New Age Caravans
- Peter Murphy - Jayco Caravans
- Brendan Palmarini - Roma Caravans
- Keir Smith - Concept Caravans
- Adrian van Geelen - Bailey Australia
The advisory group's inaugural meeting will take place later this month.

RVMAP - our proud achievement
RVM Australia's great contribution to our new industry association is its comprehensive and robust accreditation program, RVMAP, which should be a source of enduring pride to everyone who played a part in creating it.
Leading that effort was David Duncan, who transformed the association in his 2½ years as CEO, not only with a new name and structure, but with a much sharper focus. Helping to make it possible were the many members who contributed their time, effort and expertise to developing RVMAP. It is also a great credit to technical advisors, Daniel Sahlberg and Anne Campbell, that the program has been implemented so smoothly.

A bright future ahead
As we prepare to become part of a single national association that will truly represent the whole-of-industry, I would like to reflect on the work of my many predecessors who took time out of their own businesses and busy schedules to drive changes which have led the association to where it is today.
I would also like to thank the current board members who have been on the journey with me, in particular Chris Goddard my Deputy Chairman who has always been willing to stand in my place whenever the need arose. And, of course, I cannot thank RVM Australia staff enough for their enthusiasm and commitment and especially Gabrielle O'Brien who has been a tremendous support throughout the many changes over the years.
I look forward to working with the board and staff of the new Caravan Industry Association of Australia. Stuart Lamont as CEO is a man of great energy and commitment, and the combined teams in our Queensland and Victorian offices have worked tirelessly to ensure a smooth blending of all the existing operations into one very efficient entity.
The Caravan Industry Association of Australia will ensure it is business as usual for RVMAP and all the technical and policy projects which RVM Australia has under way. The future is bright indeed.

Chairman - RVM Australia

TECHNICAL

Electrical lighting requirement
External lighting has been been a focus for our technical team recently with an increasing number of enquiries from members about electrical lighting regulations. It is also noted that external lighting is one of the most commonly misunderstood requirements within the RV manufacturing industry.
External lighting is explained in Section 13 of the VSB1 (Vehicle Standards Bulletin 1), however the requirements are not easily understood. RVM Australia's Code of Practice clarifies the requirements for external lighting including reflectors. The Code covers all of the requirements under one section. Appendix 7 covers external lighting including colour, regulation, positioning diagrams and a tabled overview.

RVMAP places a major focus on electrical safety to ensure that electrical work is performed to an acceptable standard.
RVM Australia's new code of practice outlines the requirement for an electrical certificate or manufacturer's declaration for every unit manufactured.
