CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER UPDATE
| |
|
|
|
At the official launch of our recreational vehicle manufacturing accreditation program (RVMAP) in April, I said we would complete the first round of compliance inspections of all manufacturer members by mid September. I am very pleased to advise that, with the exception of a couple of smaller members who did not have product to present to us (and these will be addressed in the second round of inspections), we have completed the first round of inspections. We will now undertake a comprehensive internal review of the first round findings of RVMAP and present a report, including proposed amendments, to the board for its information and endorsement. |

Second round compliance
Second round inspections will be scheduled to commence in November. I should remind members that our compliance expectations will be higher in the second and subsequent rounds, now that members are familiar with the process and standard required. For example, if rectification is deemed necessary during the inspection process, the manufacturer will have a maximum of 10 working days to complete the task/s and it is their responsibility to immediately inform the relevant technical advisor (ie Daniel Sahlberg or Murray Longe) that the matters have been attended to, and that they have substantiated this with supporting documentation and/or photographic evidence.

MUMs the word
Following the launch of our member update meetings (MUMs) early last month, there was a healthy roll-up of members for the Melbourne MUM, sponsored by Roma Caravans and staged in caravan manufacturing heartland at the Ford Performance Racing (FPR) Display Centre in Campbellfield. Members enjoyed a guided tour of the facility with leading Ford V8 driver Alex Davison prior to the meeting. RVM Australia directors Terry Steel and Mark Palmarini joined me in a meeting that generated considerable discussion covering RVMAP and suggestions on the future direction of the Association.
Both meetings showed the high level of passion and support that members have for their Association, and this augurs well for our future endeavors. Four more MUMs are planned between now and June next year, with the next scheduled to coincide with the Melbourne Leisurefest at Sandown racecourse. If you haven't done so already, click here to RSVP.

Show compliance at the Melbourne Leisurefest
I am very pleased to inform members that CIA (Vic) has engaged RVM Australia to conduct show compliance at the upcoming Melbourne Leisurefest. This is a significant achievement for RVM Australia and which particularly benefits our manufacturer members exhibiting at the show through their accredited status under our recently-introduced product compliance accreditation program (RVMAP).
I thank the CIA (Vic) Council and CEO, Rob Lucas for this important opportunity.

With the new Federal Government now installed for the next three years or so, I am ramping up my visitation program to Canberra to meet with the relevant federal ministers with the aim of advancing our push for the "level playing field" for Australian RV manufacturers and imported RVs from a compliance perspective.

Finally, I'd like to remind members that the Association's AGM will take place at 3.30 pm on Thursday 17 October, at the Quality Hotel, Tullamarine, enabling interstate members to conveniently fly in and out of Melbourne for the day. Click here to RSVP.
I hope to see a good turn out for this important event.

Gas regulation update
Members have been advised that the AS/NZS 5601 SET:2013 Gas Installation Set has now been released. This item supersedes AS/NZS 5601 SET:2010.
The new regulations are expected to be adopted in the new year. In readiness for their adoption, RVM Australia will be conducting information workshops, the details of which will be advised to members when finalised.
In the meantime, and in consultation with Enzo Alfonsetti of Energy Safe Vic, we will provide members with a summary of key changes which will affect RV manufacturers.
For further information, please contact RVM Australia's Technical Advisors.

MEMBER PROFILE OF THE MONTH - CARAVAN ELECTRICAL SOLUTIONS
| |
This month we introduce our new member, Caravan Electrical Solutions (CES).
How long have you been in the industry, and what got you involved in it?
Caravan Electrical Solutions was incorporated in 2010 to supply wiring procurement and warranty solutions for the caravan industry. Jason and Shane have been involved in the industry for several years and set up CES to address the needs they observed were not currently being met in the industry.
Tell us about your service?
The Caravan Electrical Solutions concept was designed and developed to assist caravan manufacturers in all areas of the electrical wiring, the procurement of materials, customer support and warranty. CES utilises qualified electrical staff to complete the entire 240 volt component of the caravan and to supply a non-prescribed electrical certificate following testing. By supplying all the material and labour for each caravan, CES is able to back its work with a 12 month warranty. An added benefit is the provision of a 'Caravan Electrical Information Booklet' outlining all electrical aspects of the caravan, including important details such as a circuit diagram, fuse labelling and manuals.
What were the major reasons for you joining RVM Australia?
CES joined RVM Australia to help further the cause of improving the caravan industry. We see communication between the industry body, manufacturers and suppliers as essential in our industry's quest to improve the product for the end customer.
What future do you see for the RV industry in Australia?
The RV market should remain strong in the coming years because of the strong interest in domestic caravanning and the ever-improving standards of our products. Travelling overseas has inherent risks, so why travel overseas when Australia has so much to offer? The industry is building product for the younger market as well as for the traditional market, which should ensure a bright future.
