OCTOBER 2012
CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER UPDATE

Greetings!

At the August 2012 RVMAA annual general meeting (AGM) a number of important outcomes were resolved, notably a change in governance structure, election/appointment of the board of directors and new name for the Association-RVM Australia. The members unanimously supported these outcomes, and others.

The AGM confirmed the Association's truly national status and its ability to operate across all states and territories of Australia.

The board has wasted no time in "getting on with the job" and met formally on two occasions to date. The most recent meeting incorporated the identification of a number of strategic initiatives, which are currently being refined for inclusion into the Association's new three-year strategic plan.

 Product compliance review update

Central to RVM Australia's future direction is its product compliance program that is in its final stages of a major overhaul to develop a more robust and contemporary program. The proposed framework for the new program was endorsed by the board at its meeting held in September. Intense activity is currently underway on the development of a full suite of checklists, templates, systems and processes to best manage the program. This activity is scheduled for completion over the next couple of months. Concurrently, communication and education resources are being assembled specifically for dissemination to members.

Ever cognizant of the busy show period for manufacturers and state association show organisers alike, and with the aim not to clash with show dates, we are endeavoring to conduct an education/information "roadshow" for members during the last week of January next year. More comprehensive education sessions for manufacturers will be undertaken during the ensuing six weeks or so and the new program will commence soon thereafter.

Further updates on this important topic will be featured in future issues of InMotion.

Member visitations

I continue to meet with members at their premises as part of my visitation
program and I thoroughly enjoy this aspect of my role. Combined with the many other activities that I am involved with, it will take some time for me to get around to meet all members, however that remains a priority ambition of mine.

Until next time!

In the case of Victoria it decided to proceed with AS5601:2004 until the 2010 edition was revised. This decision was taken as there was some concern with some of the requirements as follows...

LEGAL MATTERS

Check your warranties - no more ACCC leniency

The new Warranty regime started 1 January 2012, but the ACCC has been lenient, in some circumstances. Until now. If your goods are:

(a) sold for less than $40,000 or for ordinary domestic use or consumption; and (b) sold with manufacturer's or other paid or unpaid warranties;
then, unless you have already, your written warranties will need to be reviewed.

MEMBER PROFILE OF THE MONTH - AUSTRALIAN OFF ROAD

This month we profile another new member, Australian Off Road.

How long have you been in the industry, and what got you involved in the industry?

Steve Budden, founder and director of Australian Off Road, began fabricating his own off-road camping trailers 12 years ago. For many years, Steve used to hire off-road camper trailers and, after they were continually returned beaten and broken, the perfectionist in him set about creating a trailer that wouldn't be beaten by the Aussie Outback.
