I love this time of year. I always give myself permission for some much needed downtime between the holidays. I like to get a big pad of paper, a pen and a mug of tea, and sit on my couch and daydream.
Instead of asking the usual goal-oriented questions, I like to tap into my intuition. There are three questions I ask myself.
"What am I yearning for?"
The word "yearning" seems to help me access the emotional/intuitive side of my brain. It's not a goal or an intention. It's a desire, a longing, a hunger or an ache for something that's missing. Usually the question evokes a verb such as community, adventure, fun, connection or peace. When you do this exercise don't THINK about it too much. Take the answer that arises first before your inner censor kicks in! ;)
"What would be fun this year?"
Intuition communicates in very simple ways. We may try to make it much more difficult than it is! If an idea makes you feel open, expansive, relaxed, content or enthusiastic - pursue it. The opposite is true also. If something makes you feel drained, enervated, tired or bored, it's not the right direction to pursue. The question "What would be fun?" touches that intuitive wisdom that is guiding you in the right direction.
"Wouldn't it be great if...?"
One of the problems with setting a goal is that your logical mind wants to immediately kick in with "How am I gonna make that happen?" Often the answer comes back, "You can't." Then you feel discouraged and aren't any closer to the goal. What if this year, you allowed the Universe (God, All-That-Is, Higher Power) to help you? When something excites and delights you, that's your Higher Power informing you about the path to pursue. That Wisdom isn't going to leave you high and dry without help. It will give you clues, mentors, intuition, coincidences and ideas to assist you. Your task is to pay attention and to have the courage to act on this inner wisdom.
So what's YOUR New Year going to look and feel like? I'm going for fun, adventure, abundance and a best-selling brand-new book. More on the book later! ;)
