Kevin Costner's character, Ray, is rebuked by the actor playing Shoeless Joe Jackson in the movie Field of Dreams, "If you build it, they will come." This is a classic line in the movie and a very well-known quotation for many movie watchers of the 90's.
Little did we know that it was going to be coming into play over here in Cambodia. We have quite the little crop of preschoolers over here at Bykota House. However, we had become very concerned about how easily they were going to transition into our Kindergarten program. Kelsi, our kindergarten teacher, has been hard at work with our Kinder Kids and we became aware that the children were having a hard time in Kindergarten because they were coming in as ESL students. They would have benefited with more English preschool time than what we were able to provide them with. The up and coming preschoolers were going to have a struggle as well.
This need was taken to heart by our amazing partner, Zita. Backed by her church in Singapore, she came over in April and completely designed, implemented, and equipped a new Bykota House Preschool classroom! Read more and watch the video.
When she came to us with her heart's vision and plan, we gave her a resounding "YES!" in response; despite the fact that we didn't have a clue where the preschool teacher was going to come from. We only knew that the preschool teacher needed to be someone for whom English was their native language. Hmmm...how are we going to do that? However, we took the attitude that God had provided the guidance of the first part of the journey so we were going to step out in faith. Or in other words, "If we build it, they will come."
Zita herself provided the first two weeks of preschool instruction. Then it seemed as if the dream was in danger. The preschool stood empty for a month as we didn't have the answered prayer of a preschool teacher yet.
Then at the end of May, we were blessed with:
- Zita returning to train Laura, who taught preschool for a week with the assistance of Mary.
- Laura, trained Jordan who taught for three weeks.
- Jordan was assisted during her three weeks by Hannah.
- Now we have Courtney and Amber who are have been shown the ropes by Kelsi and will be in place in the preschool room for the next three weeks.
- Then we are anticipating the arrival of Kerri who will provide the 8th uninterrupted week of preschool instruction.
We then have a week long break off of school as holiday. However, we don't know about preschool staff after that. August 5th, we have a great big question mark on our calendar.
Please rejoice with us in the provision that the Father has so graciously blessed us with the preschool classroom, supplies, and support from our partners in Singapore.
Please join us in giving thanks that the Father provided us with TEN weeks of preschool teachers in an absolutely amazing way! Please pray blessing upon all those who have come and given of their time to sow into the lives of the precious ones.
Pray with us and for our preschoolers as we wait upon the Lord for the provision of a preschool teacher.
